Just curious, does anyone have a 1JZ in their MK3 that live in either CA or some other state where smog is required? I'm kinda of curious. If anyone does, how do you get around the smog? THey don't have smog devices on them do they? Reason i ask, i came across a mk3 front clip from japan with a 1jz. LEss than 30K miles and very very cheap.

There are a few 1J's in Calif.... some of them might respond.

As for here in Ontario, driving a car that has an engine in it other than what was originally installed by the manufacturer qualifies you for "Hot Rod" status, and as such you only have to meet 1980 emissions specs.

Don't know if that rule applies there or not.

ive talked to ppl that said they just put on a good cat. and it passed. but you can make anything pass with the right equipment. with a f-con and safc you can tune it to pass with ease.

What about visual stuff? Don't they check for like EGR stuff and charcoal canisters? 02 sensors?

heheh... it only costed me $80 to pass smog for my 7m (thats $40 for paper work and another $40 to the mechanic doing it) hehehe and Mike is true, if you want to play, you GOTTA PAY.... i'm learning the hard way right now... :(

just put everything on (canister and whatnot) and have all the tubes go under somthing then zip tie them down. "Visual" usually just means "is it there" Throw some isopropyl alcohol in the tank, retard the timing, put some GOOD cats on (cats help SO much) hmm ... if you can't pass after all that i dunno...

thats kind of interesting...im guessing a JDM 7m-gte engine does not apply for that does it?
