That 1jz is from a soarer I think...soemthing along those lines...not a supra and it wouldn't work for a swap.

Yeh, Its a 1jz-gte. Toyota stoped producing Supras in the Unitedstates in 1998. That is a jap spec 1jz.

It can be swaped into the mk3, I dunno who told you, but it can.

It won't work because the oil pan is different...no alternatives.

You mean that an earlier 1JZ oil pan won't fit a later 1JZ block??

Don't think so...I was told that the pans wouldn't interchange. I've never seen one so I don't know for certain but multiple sources have said that this engine is worthless to a MKIII without a lot custom work.

The CT26 1jz-GTE had 290hp at the crank.

Harness and ECU...make sure you source those b4 the engine...

I heard there were problems with the ECU as well, but I can't remember what they were...

I know that integrating a vvt-i engine into a non vvti car is a real PITA

You could swap that in but you would need to find the right motor mounts, oil pan, and a tranny bellhousing (if you want to use the R154) from a JZA70 1JZ engine. The wiring harness issues would be the same... you may have to rewire some signals for the MKIII gauges. Otherwise it could be done. You would obviously need the ECU for this engine... and you may have a speed signal issue as the ECU is looking to get it from the dash in the correct format.

Power output was the same as the earlier twin turbo model... 280ps... This uses a later version of the CT26 vs. the twin CT-12a's... mildly laggier but cost less for Toyota to produce. The VVTi really helped the low down torque curve too.... which made up for the turbo coming online a few rpm's later.

The 1JZ 3rd gen i believe (as the 1st gen had a faulty 1-way valve, 2nd gen was upgraded, and 3rd gen was the ct26 vvti) was used mainly in the soarers and mark II and chasers. if i'm not mistaken, the 1JZ is still in production for the new Mark II Blit. The GA-JZX110W has the 1JZ-GTE 2wd, the TA-JZX115W has the 1JZ-GE, and the TA-JZX110W has the 1JZ-FSE.

Wasn't the 1JZ engine the stock engine on Japanese (twin) turbo mk3s from like 1990-1992 ?

yes indeed. MkIII supras from 90 on had the 1JZ-GTE with twin turbos. Kinda like a prelude to the infamous 2J everybody knows. Good, reliable, and fast engine, once you get it to run properly. Very rare swap in the U.S. due to the complications that are involved, though it is becoming pretty popular pretty quickly. The engine in question here is typically not used due to differences in wiring and such, plus vvti engines tend to be a little harder to work on from what I understand. Don't quote me on that one though.
