View Full Version : Check out my New Brakes
Vinlsol

Check out the pictures of my Brake Job, I started by dissasembling everything and sending my calipers to a guy in Metaire LA, named Sean, whom I found on the forum. He stripped them, sanded them, and etched them for the paint, then sprayed on the bright red paint, the Supra Logo, and 3-coates of PPG Clear Coat. In person the look AWESOME!!!
I decided to go with a Silver Supra Logo, and a Black Underline, what do you guys think??
Also if you want to contact Sean, his work is top notch!!, his e-mail is mcseantt@hotmail.com
Thanks Forum for All your help,
Vinlsol

exvelocity - Painted Calipers $125, Crossdrilled Slotted and Zinc
Rotors $300 for all 4. I wish I had the $$ for the Brembo upgrade, but I am saving for that big single.
FcUK - Currently Blitz Technospeed Z1's, but they are for sale, I am looking to get a set of HRE's, Fikse's, or something else, but these work for now.

Vinlsol -
I'm really glad you're so happy with them! Satisfaction is 1/2 the enjoyment for me ;) I love that bright red against your silver :)
Your car looks really clean too! :D I notice how clean it is in the suspension....how many miles do you have on it?
If you (or anyone else) ever have any questions about the brakes, just let me know!

That price includes clearcoat that costs $70 for a quart ;) (PPG Concept).
Same exact clear I have on 2/3 of my own supra (in my sig link).
I spend 3.5-4hrs JUST sanding them (all the grooves and rough metal cast make it take a while for a really good sand job).

SupraLB - Still waiting on the wheels from the polisher, I should have them back by this weekend, I will post some pics with it on the ground with the wheels.
blkturbo - Sean it has 60K on it. I took everything apart, and then power washed it with an industrial strength 3000psi power washer, then sparyed the black areas in the rear that had the factory undercoating with black truck bed liner. On the front I scrubbed the plastic inner fender well with a brush and the power washing re-stored the origional black plastic.
Thanks again for the awesome job on the calipers!!!

They look really good and for $125 bucks you cant beat it. Now I have to wait and see if my DIY job on my calipers will hold up or blkturbo! is looking at another customer. hehe.. BTW blkturbo if the pics in your sig link are before and after of the same car then you do very VERY good work!

are you nuts?? have nothing better to do than spend 4 hours prepping them?I would sandblast/media blast that shit in less than 20 min.if you don't have access to sandblasting equipment, find a place in town,it might cost about 15-20 to blast them, that way,all the rust is gone,it's like painting brand new calipers.
I gotta give it to you,you have some patience .or.. you're out of work.

Oh HELL NO! :D The pics I have in my link are of my 1st supra tt (hardtop), and the one that's NOT wrecked is a targa I own now....I was only doing paint work to it because of rock chips from the previous owner. Well, then last summer I wrecked it and I had to paint the front again, and the rear bumper (new front and rear bumpers were needed). I don't have any new pics yet since painting it the last time (last summer's accident).
Yeah, the totalled car has been gone for 3yrs now - total loss :(

LOL.......where do I start? :D
Yeah, I agree with your comments.....I worked in shops for 8yrs and then quit 3yrs ago to go back to school. I kept my DA and guns etc and bought an upright compressor. I paint minor stuff like this for just a little extra money - like car insurance money or gas money etc etc. :)
About the blasting equipment.....damn, do I wish I had some!!! I checked on some stuff but nothing was in my price range for the house, so I said f*ck it. I just clean them good first, then DA them with 80 (the fronts), then 180 (all 4), then jump to a dremel with a grinding stone to get into the groves and cut down some of the cast on the peely front calipers. From getting them out of the box, to having them ready for primer, it's pushing 4hrs. It does suck, but I just stick it out and forget about it when it's over with, lol. Start to finish, non-stop is typically 6-8hrs.

BTW: What rotors are they? :p
Vinlsol

Purchased the rotors from www.irotors.com.
They were good on the price, quick to ship, and I found a few guys on this forum that recommended them even after several thousand miles. I have not driven the car yet, so I am not sure, but out of the box they look and fit great!!!

Yea my fault, I didnt even realize it says RIP in your sig, nor did I look long enough at the pics to see it was a hardtop. What a shame sorry about your loss (a little late) :D , but its great that you got back into it with the targa, very nice looking car too!

I think you could make a lot of money if you had an extra set of calipers. So you could sell freshly painted calipers to someone so they would have no down time with their car. In return, they would send you their old TT calipers once they install the new painted calipers. You would use the old calipers sent to you for the next guy

I thought of this idea back when I started offering this to out-of-state guys, but over time I realized that I don't get enough traffic with this work to worry about it......I don't even care to have a bunch of orders because it can get in the way of my school (for just 1 example). If someone emails me, then great :)

Thank you - my 2nd one just happened to be nearly an identical car to the hardtop. Only differences were the targa and BBS wheels. The mileage was 30k when I bought it just as with the hardtop, both 100% bone stock, both 6spds, and their interior and exterior conditions were damn near the same :D

Boosting2day - I Ordered them from www.irotors.com they were $319 plus shipping for all 4. If you go to their website you will not actually see them listed, the page almost doesn't go all the way down. You will have to e-mail them and ask them a price for the 93.5-98 Supra TT Rotors, they have them availiable, and mine shipped within 2-days.

94Single - There is not a supra sticker, but MVP Motorsports sells the stencil to paint on your own logo for $15.

Vinlsol, does your rotors have cooling vanes like the stock rotors? If so, you installed your rotor wrong. The slots should face the other way. If not, you should've not bought the rotors as the cooling vanes helps a lot in cooling the rotors.
