well i posted awhile back about a different fog light rewire so you can have complete control over the fog lights and the other lights in the system so you can pick and choose what light combination you want at any given time. and not be stuck with having to have on certain things for certain lights to be on. IE: the gauge illumination and parking lights to have the fog lights on.......

neways i did it today..its an incredibly easy thing to do......and as contrary to popular belief previously said on this board in my earlier thread..the way i did it will work perfectly and nothing extra or more complicated is needed.......

OK HERES THE WRITEUP:

SKILL: Beginner

TOOLS: Wire Cutters, Wire Strippers, Electrical Tape , Phillips Screwdriver

PARTS: Wire, Some form of connector (Solder, Crimps, etc), TO DO RIGHT: Inline (Combination) Fuse

PROCEDURE:

1) Remove screw underneath switch panel. Pull switch panel away from dash to reveal the fog light switch and defroster switch and whatnot.

2) Cut White WITH Black stripe wire on the DEFROSTER switch...leaving enough room on both sides to strip it to put back together.

3) Cut Red WITH Green Stripe wire on back of FOG LIGHT switch. Leave Enough slack from switch to strip and splice. Tape off the other end going into the dash.

4) Splice together the red WITH green stripe wire coming from FOG LIGHT switch AND the TWO ends of the white WITH black stripe that you cut on the defroster switch. This creates a seperate ground for the Fog light switch.

5) Tape up splice and put switch panel back into the dash.

6) Pull left kick panel and lower steering column (the part with the air vent) off.

7) Locate the Fog Light Relay. Located to the left of the junction box above and its facing towards the engine. Its kinda in no mans land. (Use TSRM and/or EWD to help locate it.)

8) Pull the connector off the back of it. Locate the Red WITH black stripe wire. Give the wire as much slack as possible off the connector and cut it.

9) Tape off the wire going into the dash and strip the wire coming from the connector.

10) If neccessary add an extension wire so that the red WITH black stripe wire reaches the Junction block by the fuse area. Or to at least about 3 inches from it as the inline fuse will make up for that with that wire.

11) Put the fuses in the inline fuse and attach the wire coming off it to the red WITH black stripe wire coming from the relay connector.

12) Choose a constant 12v fuse to place the Inline fuse. I chose the Cig Lighter fuse because i never use it and i have other things coming off my IGN fuse. You can use the IGN fuse if you would like. As long as its a constant 12v when the keys in the on position. Not sure? Use a test light or voltmeter to find out.

13) Plug Inline fuse into chosen fuse location.

14) Test your work. You should now be able to turn JUST yuor fog lights on without anything else being on. Key in the on position and you have your fog lights at your mercy ;)

15) Replace panels and enjoy your new fog light rewire.

NOTE: An inline fuse IS NOT neccessary. Its just the best way to do it. You always have the option of wrapping the wire around the fuse leg but the inline fuse is much better and cleaner.

I think ive gotten everything here. If anything seems off or whatnot or any questions please feel free to ask. Hope you guys like!

neways onto the pics.sorry about the shitty quality they were taken with a digital camcorder rather then camera.......

no way!! I must have done this by accident. When I did the fog light rewire mine ended up doing the same thing. I can also turn them on with my high beams. On the down side though after I did it, I burnt out my fog light button switch:-(

Bump.

Very cool and a write up would be cool, but if its already on SOGI I don't see the point of you doing it. In any case, I will be attempting that very soon.

The most representing member of BAS, boost a dicking, did the sogi rewire on my car and had the same results. My supermonitor and subsequent battery failure may or may not be tied to it, but I don't see what the big deal is.

well my write up is THE RIGHT way to do it with no side effects.....both circuits are fused and the relay is still being used to control the large current. so have no fear.

i have edited the original post with the writeup hope that helps! :D

only one problem, doesnt work correctly on the 87 my buddy has. only choices for wires off the relay are red/green stripe; red; and red/yellow stripe. worked fine on my 91 though and im happy bout it. NOTE: DO NOT START CUTTING ANYTHING UNTIL YOU ARE SURE THAT ALL THE WIRE CODES MATCH UP!

Also, I've since rewired the marker light(s) to blink in sync when the blinkers do...

Anyone?

And my nice new Hella fogs came in too. So this would really help, since I'll be changing the foglights to also rewire it as well. :bigthumb:

Sorry for the bump x.x So let me get this straight, the only difference between the '89+ and the pre89 is the red/black wire is red/yellow? No other differences?

Having problems finding the relay and wire to cut. I dont have a TSRM to help me out. I think I have the right relay but this and another write up dont show pictures of it. Also I dont know where/what "terminal" they are talking where the red and black wire goes into. Im posting pics of what I think I got and where Im stuck.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a182/lil23ba11a/2010-07-27_153222.jpg
The relay on the left that is facing right and kinda hanging off is what I believe is the right one. Am I correct or can you point it out for me? I dont see any terminal around there unless its the one on the back of the connector/relay plug in.
