View Full Version : Automatic Tranny Model Question

This isn't a price request, rather a model number question.

I recently bought a used low mileage auto tranny for my 93 Mkiv Turbo Supra. (I think it came off a 94) When the tranny arrived, I noticed the tag on the side had a model number of 30-40LE. I looked on the web and it looks like the 30-40LE is also known as the A340F. I found a few sites that listed this tranny as coming on other Toy' vehicles, but not explicitly the 93+ Supra Twin Turbo. In a panic I crawled under my Supra and the model on my tranny is the same. Same tag. 30-40LE. Is this the tranny that my car is supposed to have? I have read where some people think the 30-40LE is a JDM tranny. Aaaarrgh!

Can you clear up the confusion or point in the direction of information to clear things up? I want to make sure I have the right tranny before I have it built. Thanks a ton.

Hi Curt,

Yes. On the tag (of the tranny I purchased) It says the following

30-40LE
35000-1B310
Serial# 93L R 00400

Just curious, does the 93* serial number mean it is a 1993 tranny? Any info on what this one is would be awesome.

I tried to look at the other numbers on the tranny in the car and all I could make out was the 30-40LE. (I will have to clean the tag up and put the car higher in the air.) Everything else on the tranny in the car looks identical. Plugs, connectors, mounts, etc.

My VIN is JT2JA82J3P00016** incase that helps. (the ** are actually digits)

Thanks!

**Whew**

Thanks a ton Curt. I read some mis-information on the Web and was starting to sweat bullets.

I really appreciate you clearing that up for me. Have a great week!

Just for my future personal knowledge... since I might have to buy one.

How much is a new A340E or A341E with torque converter?

Thanks in advance.

The reason I am asking is because apparently some very odd transmission found its way into my car. I think some mystery ghost changed it while I wasn't looking. Turns out I have a transmission with a 26 spline input shaft and matching converter. Well All the Supra's happen to come with a 20 spline count. It is sure a mystery to me why mine is different. But if I ever want a built tranny and converter I have to get the proper gear first. All the converter builders said I need the 20 spline count. So I am on a mission to find one.

Thanks again,

Kevin from Denver

Thanks Curt. Btw, I have one last odd questions. Does the 98 Auto's happen to come painted black on the body of the transmission and still the grey silver color on the bell housing?

Just curious.

93.5-98 are all A340E USA PRODUCTION

, so are they all pretty interchangable or are there any electronic differences that would not allow an older one to be able to run it??
