I wouldn't say to drift safely since drifting is not exactly the safest thing...even if your a pro something may always go wrong...

but before i go out and do an actual drift i want to set up my car the right way.

what do i need to buy. like i know suspension, brake and all but which one would you guys recomend?

i mean i know how to drive and all but draging is becoming a drag now aday. the driver who spent more money on his car almost always win. so i got interested in drifting.

so any help would be great.

Skill.

I don't have any so I'm guessing that's what I'd need to drift my car.

i'd look into some koni yellows *5 way adjustable*, LSD helps a ton too so make sure that if you drift a lot to take care of maint on that... you'll live for awhile with stock breaks and what not... maybe slotted rotors but when you first start you prolly won't be taking corners as fast as you think you'll be taking them... strut bars would do good... maybe some cusco struts? not sure on who makes good ones... uhhmmm sheet tires won't really matter that much just ones with stiff sidewalls other wise you'll just understeer more then you already do... a lot of it is just going to be throttle play and how well you manage the brakes/ebrake and what not... you don't really need much more on the supra other then stuff to stiffin up the body/suspension... you can check uhhh modacar.com they have a lot of suspension stuff you can check out... hope i helped some even tho i doubt i did ^.^

You need practice, and some D2's, or JIC's, or Tein flex, or Ohlins coil overs. Does your car have a LSD? that is really important.

ohlins dampers are worth more than his whole car. get some konis and a diff, some strut bars and call it a day. if you seriously want to learn with this car then don't even bother with all of that expensive shit. you're basically going to be writing this car off in a few months anyway.

A custom rear suspension makes all the diffrence in the word on these cars. Give us a call or if your in the area drop by the shop and we'll get you drifting in no time.

go out and drift ur car stock!!!!!!!! once u are at the level where u can determin what u need, then change it and go out and drift some more!! if the part is adjustable, fine tune it to ur likings then find out what else is holding u back and then change that!!

what is with ppl thinking they need some 10k set up to drift?? i drifted a 240sx with just tokico struts and ebach springs for a year, and then a coupe with just the strut bars for a couple months! and now a stock rx-7 going on 3 months now, but i just droped a bunch of dough on the 7 so its not so stock anymore lol

If you take out your rear sway bar and leave the front sway bar in you'll just make more understeering darsh.

I agree practice with what you ahve. If any upgrade get an lsd. Stock whatever toyota made for your year is good enough. I found it the easiest to learn in the rain. Just practice. do mostly first gear stuff first. And Practice doughnuts and ebraking it. get comfortable keeping the revs up in first while being sideways. Once you learn how to control and modulate the gas pedal and e brake to induce oversteer you'll pick up 2nd and 3rd gear drifts easier.

Moral of the story learn to work your rpms
pracice with a stock lsd first
start off with first gear stuff

if you want only one upgrade... i'd say get an LSD.... not a stock one, but an aftermarket one... LIKE a TRD or KAZZ... something like that is going to set you back about a grand installed with new bearings...

good luck

idk about ur gearing, but in the 240 and RX-7 first gear is WORTHLESS!! there is no room for anything, either the tires are slipping and ur bouncing off the revlimiter, or ur grabbing and reving high, i would recomend using second fo rlearning, that way u can learn more throttle control as u can move up and down in the rpm range!

also, if u have a stock clutch type lsd, it will be more than enough till a lot later in ur building prosses.

Another thing to think about is weight. Try stripping the car down of all unnecessary crap if it will be a dedicated drifter. From what I understand A lot of weight is in the front crossmember so this is what we are gonna look at soon in terms of fabrication.

Im really intrested in the MKIII as a drift car because after drifting 240's I want something different from everyone else. Seems that everyone here drifts 240's, Corolla's, and the occascional civic and camaro..

Well, I have found that you don't need much to go drifting. My stock supra power slides/drifts through corners with ease. Learn how to work wtih what you got before you go dump a ton of moeny into something. Hone your skills, then your machine to match your new found ability.

Just need a LSD to drift...thats it...

After that maybe some coilovers or nice spring/shock setup...

i'm officially turning my car into a drift car and i'm on a budget, right now i have billstein coilovers, and i'm gonna run a 3 in cut out after my bic dp, i bought a 4.30lsd, and i plan on getting a lightened flywheel and one peice driveshaft. and i already have shitty tires

with jus the coilovers and exhaust, my car slides around in wet or dry pretty nice in second and third, you just gotta get used to the car, practice makes perfect, oh and have some extra sawblades for those damn curbs!!!

If you ever get serious about drifting you will be buying some good tires. Buying cheap crap tires doesnt cut it. LSd, and coil overs, drop the car down low, try to eliminate body roll.

Do everyoine else a favor, and keep it on a track, or event.
