Hate to sound like a total newb... but it is what it is...

i got my 99 cbr f4 last friday... and have no manual or anything.

I'm familiar with how a choke works... but i need to make sure this is right on my bike.

With the lever fully forward (where there's a picture of what looks to be a closed, or partially closed airway) this is where the choke should be when its cold right?

And when its warm... i can move the choke all the way down.

Well.. when its fully warm... and i move the choke down (or open) the idle will increase slightly and then just cut. I'm not sure I'm starting off backwards (choke on is lever all the way forward) or if thats just how it is.

Right now i ride with the choke about halfway... it rides nice and smooth. But anything past that and the engine will just die.

Is there something wrong? OR is this the world of carbs?

it should be up (PUSHED ALL THE WAY FORWARD) when its warm. only pull it down for a cold start... or to raise the idle for slow wheelies ;)

okay.. so I have been starting the bike incorrectly this entire time haha...

the picture was a bit misleading to me... a picture of a partially closed air path led me to believe that meant that the choke is on and restricting airflow... I guess in this case it means that the choke is off.

Anyways... i actually like it near the middle... the higher RPM allows me to do the slow manuevers using only the clutch... and it's easier for me to take off in first without stalling.

there is an idle adjust on the right side of the bike right below the seat... you should use that instead of the choke.,

hmm didn't know that.... i'm assuming I should adjust it so that i have the idle at the RPM i want with the choke fully up instead of halfway huh...

I have a sharkskin rear fairing (previous guy hated the banana seat... can't blame him).... would this possibly cover it? or is it near the frame/rear brake reservior?

hmm, ive been looking at pics and it looks like the placement of it is different on the f4's compared to my f3. just look at the lines running away from the carbs and look for the screw

here is what it looks like
