So I have been working on my new project for a couple of days now, and I thought that I would pass on some valuable information on how I just got an insane amount of steering angle from my 89T. when the wheel is full cocked in either direction (lets say right) I can just about see the inside of the right sawblade sticking out. it's that sweet-almost 45 degrees. sickness. here's my little secret:
first off, I installed 1.5" spacers all the way around-makes the car look a little tougher too. secondly, and most importantly, I removed the bump stop bolts completely from the steering-they were sticking out about an inch. that alone got me at least 10-15 degrees more angle. I haven't ran it yet, so I cannot say what the side effects will be. to find the bump stops, look at the rear of the assembly that the wheel bolts onto, and there is a bolt sticking out with a 14mm nut securing it in place on the bottom. you'll know what I mean as soon as you see it. a `14mm deepwell took everything out at once.

careful, those oem bumpstops are there to sometimes stop your steering rack from running out of gear. on 240 racks we have the stops where the knuckle hits the stop thats welded to the flca. you can bump it back about 1/4-1/8" of an inch but its risky. if you do it 1/4" and are constant full lock to full lock, you'd probably blow your rack on a 240. BE CAREFUL!

sorry I don't have any pics available at this time. I can assure you as I had the opportunity to drive the car yesterday, that I had some sick angles drifting along the back roads back home. it great.

So did it break yet? I want to see pics, I'm curious about how you did this. It really doesn't sound like the best way to do it though, but I guess it's one way to. When you spacers, you're talking about wheel spacers right, just between the wheel and the hub or are you talking about something else?

be careful...with this kind of playing you could and probably will blow out your steering rack.
5mm spacers at most is safe.

werd, using spacers puts more stess on the bolts as well.

If you guys are talking about wheel spacers, then I think you're completely wrong. If you're using sandwich spacers as long as there is enough thread engagement, then you'll be fine. If they're bolt on, they won't cause any problems as long as they're torqued.

not wheel spacers...spacers for your tie rods.

Alright, I just wasn't sure because I'm pretty sure the guy who started the thread was talking about wheel spacers and not tie rod spacers. At least I hope so.

yeah, wheel spacers, screw the tie rod spacers, I couldn't imagine how they would do any good. I would like to see a re-designed rack that is a couple inches longer though, but then we're talking mega $$$ there

You cant see how tie rod spacers will help wheel angle???
double check what you know about them, because thats the number one move to gain angle.

Tie rod spacers are a good way to get some more angle given they're made the right way. You can't get too much more angle depending on the way the rack and the inner tie rod interface, but you should be able to get a couple more degrees at the wheels out of it. Short of remaking your front spindles there's not too much else you can do to get a lot more steering angle.

A longer rack is not a good idea unless you want to add a lot of bumpsteer to your setup. It won't work the way you probably think it will. A longer rack will have to have shorter inner tie rods. And everything else being equal, you'll only be able to get angle until you the tie rod hits the lca or the stop or whatever is there which isn't good.

Another way to do it without introducing too much additional bumpsteer is the tie rod spacers that have one male and one female threaded end that screws onto the rack and then the tie rod screws onto the spacer. This can give you more angle than just adding spacers into the rack. Supernow makes them for some cars, not sure about supras.

the only company(s) ive seen are JIC-MAGIC...i have them on my car and they made a huge improvement during high speed, and have saved me in tighter, low speed drifts from spinning out. You can push your car twice as hard.
According to Alex Pfieffer, his AE86 5mm Spacers will work on the Surpa stock tie rods.
