a rod, but noticed the crankshaft pulley wobbling at idle. Turned engine off and checked and the bolt holding pulley to crank was finger tight. I torqued it down to 190 ft lbs.
For the last 6 months, upon rapid acceleration, the engine has had a strange "whining" noise in addition to the occasional knocking. Almost like a jet engine. Now that the pulley has been tighened down, the knocking and whining have stopped.
Could this pulley being lose this long have damaged anything? Like the crankshaft? or threads?

it may have cause a little bit of damage to the crankshaft as it is a dampened pully which keeps it all balanced. as long as the car revs past 6k without shaking furiously or having a hard time doing it, then your just fine.

interesting, i have the same wobble at idle, and this maybe the cause of my knock sensor going crazy and pulling timing everywhere. I'll definately get this torqued

How do you torque down the crank pulley? I tried to lock it in gears, but then the car almost rolled on me when I had it in reverse and tried to torque it down.

take the little cover plate off the bellhousing and use a screwdriver hold the flywheel, that should keep it from turning.

Next time use fifth gear. Just imaging leaving the light in this gear and you'll be able to understand why.
