The technical aspects of the specifics of different models and years of the MK3 were covered in another thread, but my question is about the model names themselves, particularly the ''Performance''. What is the deal with this model, what does it consist of from the factory as opposed to other models? Does this particular model even exist? I was just wondering because i've seen a MK3 with the word ''Performance'' all the way on the left-side on the rear...directly across from where it says ''Toyota Supra''...(where it would usually read: ''Turbo'', if it were a turbo.) Does anyone know of any other models besides the ''Performance'' or ''Sport'' editions/packages and their differences?
I know a lot about the MKIV's, probably everything there is to know, but I only know *enough* about the MkIII's...just trying to gather more information on them and trying to understand them alittle better is all. I have a newfound interest in the ''old school'' Supra. Thanks for the help in advance guys.

Okay, apparently there was a such thing as the ''Performance'' model. One thing I still don't know after numerous search attempts and tries, is exactly what makes this particular model different from the rest? What does the Performance model actually come with? C'mon guys, someone has to know...help me out!

From what i know the side you are talking about only said either turbo or nothing at all, ive never heard of the performance model. Where did you see this car? Was it out and about on the streets or a web page? I have seen people take that peice off and get raised fiberglass on it in the shape of whatever they want it to say. I saw one on cardomain that said "Sleeper" on it and i know for a fact there was no sleeper model. But if you saw it somewhere near you look for it again and see if it looks like the right side or for any differences in lettering and size just to see if the had had it custom made or not.

I bought a brand new '89 mgte 5-speed with every option available in Sacramento, CA in 1989. At that time, no mention was made of a "perfomance" model. In fact, I still have my original sales brochure and there is no mention made in there either.
My current daily driver is a '91 mgte A/T. There is no mention of a "performance" model in either my Haynes service/repair manual or my '91 Supra factory repair manual. My best guess is that someone has "enhanced" the appearance of their mgte.
BTW, my pleasure ride is my '97 MKIV BPU 6-speed (soon to clock 50K on the odometer!)
