Hey everyone I have a quick question as to an area where my knowledge is lacking. On a 10" wide wheel in the rear would a 285/40/17 tire rub or have any problems? And on the front, with an 8.5" wheel would a 235/40/17 be suitable? Thanks

i guess your not asking if the tire will fit the wheel but if it will fit on the car correct? anyhow a 285/40 might be close.. the only thing saving you is the fact that is a 17.
I think a 285/35 would probably be best. What tire are you gonna go with?
What is the wheel offset? if your offset is too low youll rub, but if not i think youll be ok with a 285/40.
for the front depending on offset you can go all the way to a 255/40 no problem.
we need to know your offsets to help you better :)

Thanks man, the front is +28 and the rear is +40. Im thinking about going with some BFG G-Force KDWs

+28 on a 8.5 will be fine if you run 255/40, 245/40, or 235/40. i would suggest a 245/40
youll be fine in the rear. i never ran 285/40s on 17s i always went 275/40 and the sidewall was perfect. i think a 285/35 will give you the same sidewall (aspect ratio) as the 275/40.

Sweet deal I appreciate the info. I'm going to mock up the wheels on my car friday and see how the fit and go from there. I should be ordering tires soon. Thanks again!

Good shit.. when you test fit the wheels make sure you do full lock both ways up front . make sure you clear suspension components. I think youll be fine clearing suspension components with +28, but may rub on the inner plastic cowl once you mount tires, no biggie, JUST LET IT BURN.
i never let shops mount the wheels on my car, i only let them mount the tires on the rims. that way you can tighten them down by hand, NO TORQUE GUN = death to studs. plus no scratches and just like your pre fitting the wheels do the same after the tires are on. :)
