Hey all, first post (first of many!).

I just acquired this '98, NA Supra from someone in the states, and bringing it all the way up to Canada! Wish me luck!!!

Here's a shot:

http://www.originalsyn.net/004.jpg

It's mostly stock, except the exhaust and the wheels (duh!). I just had to share this, and what better place than the supraforums, which I have been lurking in for a while ;D

I am considering doing an engine + transmission swap in the future (1-2 years) but I'm not a big hp freak like most of you folks. I'm a little scared though, hp becomes an obse$$ion, huh? :/

Anyway..... h00rj!!!!!

Thanks guys :)

It's really nice to finally be part of the Supra family :')

Quick question however:

It's an NA Supra, but I really want to make it a 6 SPD. I'm planning on upgrading to NA-T in the near future. Right now, is it a good idea to buy a new transmission? Or should I just wait until I get the turbo kit and do it all at once?

You could do it either way, its really up to you and how much money you have. There is no real reason to get the 6 speed now unless you found a screamin' deal on one, other than that I'd just wait to buy it all at once.

Are you going to get a USDM engine or a JDM engine when you do the swap? The JDM engines are much cheaper and there only a few differences between the two engines. The JDM engine has ceramic turbo's that are slightly bigger than the US ones and the JDM engine has 440 injectors instead of 550 like the US engine.

I'm not sure yet. The owner said I could just slap a turbo kit on the engine, may require a couple of addons, bigger injectors, etc....

I could also go with a true JDM 2JZGTE. So happens that here in Montreal, Qc, there are a couple of local companies importing JDM engines at really good prices (Less than 2k, ~50,000 mi, with warranty). Labour is probably what's going to hurt ...

Don't do the NA-T kit, it's not worth it. The labor for taking the NA engine out and putting the turbo engine in will be under $1k, but you need to get new motor mounts and a few other little things. You'll also either need a USDM engine harness or you can modify/extend the JDM harness, its up to you but I dunno about the prices for either of those.

Really? I heard it could cost me as much as like $12,000... That includes everything.

Bah, I am still considering anything at this early stage anyway!

Good luck with the car and please keep it clean as it is now!

I'm talking about just the engine swap, that alone will be ~ $5k - 6k, but that's complete with tranny and it totally installed. All that other crap, TT brakes/BBK, etc. come farther down the line, no need to to it all right then.

You may want to think twice about going NA-T with a 98 vvti engine. I was in your shoes as well and went with the TT transplant. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip, I'm definitely going to base my final decision with your recommendations - You guys are the experts after all!

I heard NA-T can have its share of issues. I'd rather pay a little more and go with a full transplant without issues. *knock on wood* :D

I had the NA-T on my first Supra and I owned my engine running only like 8 psi, that was the end of that.

You'll be fine doing the swap, just take your time and don't rush anything and don't cut any corners cause that's when shit goes wrong.

[QUOTE=Supra109;5142909]I had the NA-T on my first Supra and I owned my engine running only like 8 psi, that was the end of that.

So you blew the engine running 8psi? I have a '95 NA-T that I turbo'd 2 years ago with the Turbonetics kit (which I guess is no longer available). I haven't had any problems with mine, and I drive it pretty aggressively. I want to eventually upgrade the fuel system (after putting in thicker head gasket) so I can run more boost.
I'm curious what setup you had, and what caused the failure on yours.

I don't really know, one day after pushing it hard and I think the boost spiked and it owned my engine and I started to get rod knock.

lol, yep I talked to him about this and it is him indeed. He's a really nice guy though don't be fooled by internet forums... Also, I'm pretty sure the car never had nitrous installed, that guy owned a couple of Supras so it could have been another one.

By the way it's the 350Z Daytona Blue color :)

The only thing I'm disappointed with is the right headlight was "restored" and became foggy very quickly. Now it's ugly as hell. Ima buy a brand new one next month or so!

Thanks for all the comments guys! See you at the meet!!!

Wow. What can I say, other than NEVER EVER deal with this fool who sold it to me. His name is Brandon and from De Pere, Wisconsin. (Yes, the guy who was spamming the forums all over the place). I'm not going to post his personal info, I'm not that low.

This crook actually removed the headlights and let me have his old 93-96 headlights that are all fogged and he tells me to %$*! off ... What an loser :die:

You guys were right about him all along. The good news is that everything else is cool with the car. It's just gonna cost me another $750 to get a new pair I guess...

Anyway ...... Internet = ALERTED!

98 in that condition with all those mods....i mean COME ON.

Also brandon has moved on too I guess...he bought a 98 RSP twin turbo 6 speed(really low miles I heard) :) pretty sick. I think this is his video of it! :)

Yes I know he has a RSP Supra, I also got his ass banned. I guess that makes us even. The greatest thing is that eBay will pay for them, so I couldn't care less.

Can't wait to have money to put more power into it though! Where would you guys start? Are cams worth it if I'm gonna swap the engine later? Can I keep em? I already have a decent air intake (could be better) and 3" pipe.

I would do NOTHING to that car..it looks amazing the way it is... I would leave it until i had enough money to make it a 6spd TT. if your not a HP freak then the swap will be MOREEEE then plenty for you... if you have never driven a TT before i suggest you find one and test drive it lol youll never go NA again.

I think most of us could've told you that the headlights were early model just by looking at them, if you showed them in the pic. You bought the car as it was. If he had replaced them for aesthetic reasons, or because they broke would you complain?

Most privately owned cars come with a concrete gaurantee, once you drive it from the concrete it's no longer gauranteed. I wouldn't be too put out though, it's a nice car for a nice price.

^^^ the pictures that rez received and posted for all of us to see had the 98 headlights in them... when rez showed me the car in person, im the one who pointed out that he got screwed and that his car now had 93-96 lights. even on the ebay add, the seller had stated that the car came with 97-98 headlights.... either way, its still a sexy biotch

Hey all, I decided I'd write a little update:

I have just purchased a pair of BF Goodrich G-Force KDW (285/40/ZR18) and going to buy Megan Racing suspension next week. Nothing fancy, but there's more...

I have settled with a full 2JZGTE swap, which should happen in the next few months, possibly next spring. Overtime is a bitch, but hey :) I plan on keeping it in the 550-600 range to begin with.

I will take plenty of pics for you guys and keep you posted!
