View Full Version : Common locations for vacuum leaks?

My car has been having some idle trouble and wants to stall (and sometimes does) when I let off the gas and press the clutch after a hard pull. I'm thinking this is more than likely a vacuum leak. I'll be home from school in about a week and want to do some searching for this leak... where are some common places? I've been boosting 12psi for a while on the stock I/C pipes, is it possible one could have cracked due to the higher boost level?
I have also noticed that i've been getting slightly less vacuum at idle according to my AVC-R.

I would suggest that you check all the I/C piping especially the one from the I/C to Turbo

Chris had this stalling problem. It turned out to be his O2 Sensor. Just a thought.
If you do not find a leak and you have no codes, I would also check the readings on your O2 sensor if you have not changed it before. It may be on its way to failure and not generating a code. I have had leaks before and my computer has been able to compensate. How much of a change in vacume are you talking about?

normally I would get about -511 inHg vacuum... now i'm getting in the -480's. but it doesnt seem to be consistent... sometimes i get -511, sometimes its in the -480's, but it doesnt stay in one place the entire drive, it fluctuates.

i had a weird problem with vacuum leaks b4..
1) my oil dipstick slighty comes up, and cause a little leak there.
2) valve cover gaskets were messed up and were leaking
3) power sterring pump air pipe (the rubber hoses) were hard and cracked..
4) brake booster check valve gone bad
after i replaced all of that .. no more problems .. kinda sorta
damn fan clutch broke recently and makes a screeching sound when i rev above 3k =(
anybody selling or know where i could obtain a decent electric fan?

Yo,
approx. $100+ for one from Toyota. There is no generic one I can find.
