Updated, Thanks Orlando.

so is it still gonna be mostly supras or is it going to just be a huge car meet?

We plan on having the same turnout of Supras at this event as last year. In addition we are inviting more clubs out to join in the festivities. We are not trying to take anything awasy from Supra Owners but at the same time people have been asking for this change for several years now and I feel it is a step up and in the right dierction.

Ok how about another school girl competition!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woon vs Sad? Really? He went out and ran 8.7-8.9 and broke a tranny, 4 axles, caught fire and ran some 11-13sec passes in TX. And he called Jessica Barton a bitch and a slut.

My car lifts at the 1/8th and runs quicker than that now so what would be the point as usual.

The goal has always been to make each year better than the last. I am very sure this will be an exciting event with everyone willing to help.

Jeff is no different than everyone who attended the past Vegas event. He is stepping up because he would like the Vegas meets to continue then to become a halt because of SILV.

THANK YOU JEFF and EVERYONE ELSE INVOLVED.

There's a few rules that we'd like to discuss and these rules apply to ALL classes.

- Classes will be filled on a first to pay basis.
- 1/4 mile
- .400 pro tree.
- Deep staging allowed.
- All cars must run only water in the cooling system. No anti-freeze allowed. All cars will be checked.
- If there's a problem with your car during the race you MUST pull over to the side and stop. This minimizes track clean up. Failure to do so may result in you being disqualified.
- All cars are subject to tech inspection. If your car does not pass then you may not be able to race. LVMS will handle all tech inspection.
- Ladder eliminations. Winners advance
- First or worst rule in effect.
- Quickest ET gets lane choice
- Cars must make a full pass to advance to the next round

I'm just pointing out that the buy-In fee is too high for most people, unless it is a private track day. Take it as you wish but as the Drag Coordinator for SILV08, I already tried that and it didn't fly with the racers. The fees you have are good, IMO, but the racers will (most likely) just want to have fun and the $$ you are suggesting as a buy-in is too high. That amount is better suited for high-rollers.

Just an honest opinion from a been there-tried that point of view.
Good luck either way!

Supra98ST
03-24-2009, 02:19 AM
True^^^^ $500 and so on is way to high with the amount its going to cost just to make it there, hotels, food, entertainment

cummins
03-24-2009, 02:45 AM
$500 is a high amount. BUT in all honesty how many people do you think would even run the TT5 class from supraforums? Hardly any at all! Its the same people that would run unlimited class at silv, which is usually less than a handful of cars including the regulars such as Dana, BL and Brett. Most people from SF would fall into the True Street class which is $300. Its still a little high but the price does separate the real racers from rest and the payouts will be good and could possibly extend to the quarter finalists.

Supra98ST
03-24-2009, 03:13 AM
I understand $300 is a good price maybe I was thinking $500 was our bracket. Also some winners will make there money back in the trip for that cost........I just dont want people to stray away due to costs that would ruin it for most people

sureshot1
03-24-2009, 09:11 AM
Everyone needs to read the class rules carefully. Stop jumping the gun here.

ondngro
03-24-2009, 09:26 AM
1st read the rules, see what class you would want to participate in.

TT5 is not a slow class, i would say anywhere from 8.40 and below.

Manual Transmission shootout well they are in the 8's for sure

True Street looks like a real fun class because I can see a 9 sec car possibly taking that win.

jawsgear
03-24-2009, 09:38 AM
Keep in mind guys, for the "Real Racers", of whom we want to come out and watch, these amounts are not out of reach. Everybody has been asking for a good racing show and that is waht we aim to provide. These are the classes, as it dos not cater to all the slower cars like stoc/BPU ect, it will make for a very enjoyable and fun turnout for guys that really want to race. You always have the option to run Midnight Mayhem on Friday night which will be available from 6-10pm without a buyin. so for those guys that just want to grudge race, You have the oppurtunity.

jawsgear
03-24-2009, 09:42 AM

Appreciate the input JT, we will see how it goes. The track is not completely rented out but we did get special access for a fee. Typically the track opens at 12pm, we have secured the track to where they will open gates at 7am, qualifying will start around 9am. Typically, we would have to be done by 5pm, they have offered to extend the time later if need be.

Keep in mind guys, we are doing a huge cash payout for each class. It is not like you guys are taking home 200 or 300 dollars. There will be thousands paid back. Most likely 80-100% depending on sponsors.

Example: 16 Car Field for True Street, it would break down to $3000.00 for the winner and $800.00 for runner up. Pretty godd odds if you ask me.

John Reed

1st read the rules, see what class you would want to participate in.

TT5 is not a slow class, i would say anywhere from 8.40 and below.

Manual Transmission shootout well they are in the 8's for sure

True Street looks like a real fun class because I can see a 9 sec car possibly taking that win.

There are two things to remember. The guys who have cars to run the "big boy" classes often toss bets around far in excess of the buy in amount (just look at some of the TX threads for example). And trust me, it is a ton of fun for spectating when these guys are fighting for a pretty nice size pot!

The true street class will be comprised of a lot of guys who don't race very often, and it is highly likely that the fastest car will not win. You just never know, but it should be some fun! There is all summer to practice, and the odds are probably better than the tables in Vegas when the racing ends. :)

There is also midnight madness Friday night, which is pretty cheap and geared to full street cars. If the above racing program doesn't suit you but you want to make a few passes with your friends, this is the place to be. It is a lot of fun!

Not everyone will be happy, and I am sure JT can comment on that as well. That will never be the case. The goal this time is to put a program together for Saturday that really appeals to the hard core racers, puts on one hell of a show for the spectators and draws in a larger group of car guys to just have some fun. There will be a show and shine, there will be drag racing opportunities for those that just want a couple fun passs and of course the dyno (plus cruise and perhaps karting).

It will be fun guys, approach it with an open mind and lets see what happens.

This pic was taken on 10-16-04. The weather is supposed to be
about the same this year so this is kind of what we could expect.

It's kind of rustic and different and there are a couple of Restaurants up there to grub if the price is right. I'm assuming that people liked having a destination last year, and more importantly, having some food, am I right? That time to eat, drink, socialize, and take pictures is very important to the camaraderie of the event I think.

Besides, it just seems kind of :lame: to drive up just to turn back around. I would have to investigate a bit more, but we could have a nice brunch of something up there. Dinner would probably be too expensive, and we'd likely have other crap going on that night. Besides, with all the women in Vegas, who wants to have dinner with a bunch of dudes?

There's always Hoover Dam but the photo ops and food there are limited. :dunno:

Some of the full race cars have not even been to the show and shine in Vegas, and I know for me after a while the show and shine gets a bit slow as the day progresses. This way people can mill about the cars on display, see the race cars getting thrashed on, and all hang out and play in the same place. On the flip side there may be guys who are just not into racing as much, but this way will allow them to spectate the drags at their leisure while enjoying the show/shine.

I was just in Vegas for an event this past weekend, and it was setup exactly like that. Every time I went from the pits to the strip I went through the show/shine area, and got to see the cars on display. Everyone was milling about taking it all in, and it was a real good time.

As John mentioned, a lot of the racers have expressed the fact they would like to race and less show. You will be in the pits for the show and shine so you could simply walk over and check out the cars as well as walk over to the stands and watch the racing. Everything isgoing to be centralized for yourviewing pleasures.;)

Hit the nail on the head. Yes the show and shine will be inside the gates. 100's of thousand's of dollars worth of cars, trucks, tools, ect. Your car will be secure. OK, everyone.

I have been staying off the forums for about 2 months now to focus on other things because as you all know this place can lure you in for hours. So I am not up to date on many things.

I did however hear about the cancellation of SILV09 at HIN for the first time. I was amazed to say the least.

Since then I have been contacted by Jeff to help out this year as I have a lot of knowledge of the back end of the event and car shows in general.

I have accepted the position of helping out run the Show portion of the event as I have the last few years for SILV. To those who are concerned with the big dogs not being around to see the cars because racing will be going on too, we will be working hard to set up the event so that the show will be close to where we have the pits set up as well. That away, you get to see all the action all together. We will be inviting a couple other car clubs this year and will be making this event as good as it can be.

After talking a bit with Jeff, I have the utmost faith that we will be able to bring forth a great show with all the others involved in helping as well.

There is plenty of time to plan for this so any suggestions are appreciated as always and will be taken into consideration by those helping out.

- If so where is the sign up packet and how much?
- Also its $40 per racer just to shoot up and down the track and not enter into any races?
- Whats the Karting cost, and where is it held? Is it a track or is it cones?

Guys,

I really don't where to start, but it seems most appropriate that I start off by thanking Jeff Wilson (JawsGear) for stepping up to make the Sin City Showdown (GREAT name, btw) a reality. A racer-focused event in Vegas is going to be off the chain and HUGE thanks go to Jeff for committing the time, money and resources to bring about another Supra-centric Vegas event.

MANY thanks as well to Orlando (ondngro) for stepping up to be the race coordinator. I do not know him, but I have read his posts in this and other race-oriented threads and it's clear this man really knows his shit when it comes to racing. His contacts in the racing community will prove to be invaluable, as well as the assistance he is receiving from cummins, John Reed and others.

HUGE thanks to Jaguar (Chris Dickens) for signing on as the Scenic Drive coordinator. Last year's event was the best ever in the history of the SILV Scenic Drive thanks to Chris and some of the Vegas residents who helped him with location reconnaisance that proved to be so valuable to the owners of our favorite car.

A BIG thanks as well to AdamSupra for signing on as the Shown 'N Shine coordinator. Adam has tremendous experience with this part of the event and each year he fine tunes the Show 'N Shine to be better than the year before. I can't think of a better guy for this event and, LOL, this year your car will be READY, right Adam?

To me, the team Jeff has put together is about as strong a line-up as one could possibly hope for when organizing an event of this magnitude. It says a lot about Jeff and his coordinators that they have stepped up in this fashion. I am sure the SCS will be an event for the ages.

For my part, I will attempt to be of assistance behind the scenes whenever Jeff thinks I can play a productive role. I will also be working my SoCali Supra buddies to ensure their attendance and will be talking up the SCS at next Friday's F & F 4 event organized by my good buddy Ryan Hawkins (well over 100 Supras will be in attendance). Like SILV08, I will work to entice the racers from AZ, TX and Florida, among others, to come join their west coast brothers in what will be an epic event. Hope to see EVERYONE there!

Ken.

Todd, from talking to Jeff, renting out the track does not seem to be out of reach should we actually get enough sponsors. The cost is almost 1/3 of what it has been in the past from my understanding. If we can truly fine tune this event within the next 2 months and really push to get some big companies involved, then renting the track IMO is absolutely possible if we want to.

Again, this is going to be a bigger event with other makes and models, so I think we can do it even though it might cost more in the end.

Adam,

No full track rental this year. We got a partial but there are others that have reserved the track already for thier events. This is the only option we have this year. But I have already been talking to them about next year to see what we have to do to have the track to ourselves for private rental next year.

Not having the track rental for the event concerns me. The track prep becomes a big concern and with the "anything goes" it typically means cars that shouldn't be on the track running are out there ripping up the track and making the conditions a big worry.

The GTO club last year was PAINFUL, as were watching the VW's run over and over. I thought.....oh SWEET, the GTO club.....then I realized it was THOSE GTO's. :crossjerk A host of 60's goats running would have been sweet, but the modern ones are turds. I will admit to enjoying the Grand Nationals however. :D

I know the private rental for both lanes, 8am to 5pm is roughly $7000. I'm not sure if it's the same for an entire afternoon/evening or not. Maybe if we do all day, make a TRUE street car 18inch tire and up class, with no payout and a $100 entry, and involve all the people who just want to have fun, it could pay for the difference. ;)

Truth be told, I wouldn't even go to the races if I have to sit through hours of 13 second GTO's and Vettes running in between the quality racing. I had already decided that I was not going to attend the SILV drags this year unless they had the ENTIRE track all day. I know many people who felt the same way.

Not having the track rental for the event concerns me. The track prep becomes a big concern and with the "anything goes" it typically means cars that shouldn't be on the track running are out there ripping up the track and making the conditions a big worry.

Rich

What's so different than running at silv? SW went high 180s there and was fine. LVMS is a good track even if they don't fully prep it for an event like scsn. Lots of 8 sec passes by 6 speeds, Saad, SW, Ryan, Cody. I'd be more worried running at that narrow TX track that you just raced at.

So basically you want a racer oriented drag event, want to rent the track, then create a special class with 18 inch street radial tire for you to race in, and if not on these terms no matter how many supras or other fast car attend you just won't go............interesting.

Actually no, I want to create a TRUE street car class because I think FAR more guys will come and run in that as it represents 95% of the cars in the community, and it will support the event renting the entire day since it will have no pay outs, which thus creates a much more interesting event of quality cars run by the same organizers for the entire day. Your twisted perspective is interesting to say the least.

If you think I'm the only one who said they will NOT sit through hours of 13 second vettes and gto's again you are sorely mistaken.

cummins

A true street car meaning no cage even if you run 9s or quicker? A track where they will not kick anyone out for not having proper safety equipment? What kind if true street class would be limited to an 18 radial. I think hardly anyone would enter your race unless it was next to free, and if they do its going to be the dreaded 13 car or slower cars that you so highly talk about. It sounds to me like you want to rent out a private airway or something like that, not an nhra track.

jawsgear
03-29-2009, 10:38 PM
Full Day Track Rental is NOT an option at this point, other events going on that same evening and weekend. In addition, absolutely NO NHRA track that I know of will let any street cars run 9 second passes without the proper safety equipment. Yes it sucks for guys like you Todd, but we do not make the rules, NHRA does. This is one of the reasons you see people modifying their cars. Good example is Woon. Safety is number 1 concern.

John Reed
03-29-2009, 11:14 PM
I can't speak for LVMS, but I have attended quite a few private track rentals in my line of work and I have never been to one yet where the tech rules were waived (in fact most of them were more strict than just "blending in" so to speak at a big event and getting away with it). If I am not mistaken, Woon's event started as a private track rental that grew into a meet. Tech was hardcore and we all know the results of that.

I really think Jeff, Orlando and the guys are doing the best they can within the scope of what they have to work with. We could rent the whole track at LV and they could toss people for tech infractions just as easy. It is solely at their discretion, anytime. I have been there, done that at other facilities and we have gone home early at the whim of tech enforcement (including not letting the guy who rented the track run till he got new up to date seat belts in a car that was otherwise fully legal to run the speeds he was running).

Todd, I really do hope you bring your cars out to play because they are bad ass. It may not be ideal for what you want to do, but I am sure most people will enjoy seeing the cars and they make good show/shine material after you get the boot! :) Perhaps if you wanted to research some sort of airstrip rental or similar venue that truly would be a "private", it might make a good addition to the current program (perhaps Sunday even for those who are interested).

dont read into the name TRUE STREET too much, its just a name for class we are promoting for heads up action. When you have seen accidents as i have, safety is a big concern, and when you have the proper chassis for your ET/MPH and the car breaks loose, and go into the wall, those OEM seat belts and Air Bags wont do much to save you.

it has taken the supra community a long while to catch up to the rest of the crowd on the proper certs, safety gear, racers gear and cages, but i see a lot more guys stepping it up now.

lets not forget you also need a nhra license to be making 9 sec or better passes.

Having the show n shine simultaneously with the drag racing means you don't *have* to sit through the slow cars. Go look at some nice Supras, and fraternize with your fellow Supra owners in the parking lot while the GTOs are running.

The other nice thing about having the show n shine at the dragstrip is that we don't have to park half a mile away from the bleachers, as in past years.

Oh I will absolutely come to the show and shine. No question about that. I'll participate as much as I can, which unfortunately will be in a "look how pretty my cars are" capacity.

As for the airstrip rental.....not a bad idea. When Brett and I were planning our event with the launch of the new endeavor....stay tuned on that.....we wanted to do a Vegas mile and half mile in conjunction with that. ;) We really do need to find a way to actually bring street racing off the street, but the dragstrips make that impossible. Hopefully some day we can find a way. :) I wonder what they'd do if you brought a bone stock Veyron out on road race tires and ran 9.80.....tell you to cage it?

Nellis AFB was hosting a "Vegas Mile" type event last year, I think it was held the weekend before SILV08. I saw some ads for it at the dragstrip. Might be worth coordinating some future Vegas meet with, assuming it's an annual thing. The Silver State Classic is another event I would like to attend someday.

I think with the numbers of cars and people we are talking about Nellis AFB would be out of the question. My cousin is in the AFB and we actually stayed on base during last SILV and security is pretty crazy (especially since they got the new F22's). But who knows ??

The reason we will be having the show and shine and drags together is exactly so when there are cars you don't want to watch, you can go look at some sweet rides and also be in the pits with the big boys.

Right now they have the internet price low trying to fill the spots. Keep your eye on the price it will be going up shortly as the rooms fill. Normal rates if not booked in advance or locked in like we have done is about twice that price. It saves to book in advance. But if we look back to previous years, I do not think the Host Hotel has EVER been set up this far in advance, it has always been 2-3 months before the event, thus the higher rates. Example, Luxor right now the best group rate is $65 on Wed and Thurs, and $140 on Fri and Sat.

No conflicts with contracts but,

Neither of these places have oversized parking for trailers
Neither of these places have secured parking
Both places are at the far end of the strip by the Convention Center
I would like to keep the thread to official Event information if possible.

Actually If I remember correctly the Sahara has a huge outdoor security patrolled oversized vehicle parking lot and both hotels are on the North end of LVBLVD which is about 5 or more miles closer to LVMS than Excalibur. Also the room rates are just way cheaper at either Hotel.

Anyway I just edited previous post at your request.

I stay at the Excalibur every year and love it, at SILV07 security gave me some problems with my car in the parking garage because it's loud. 08 I got nothing but trouble, I was yelled at twice and ultimately they told me if I parked in the garage one more time I'd be ticketed(luckily that was the day I was leaving). I see this being a MAJOR issue.

Since it's an enclosed area most aftermarket exhausts will set off sensitive car alarms parked in the garage. People tend to complain about that. As long as you can make them aware theres nothing we can do about it then we might be ok.

I was just in Vegas for an event this past weekend, and it was setup exactly like that. Every time I went from the pits to the strip I went through the show/shine area, and got to see the cars on display. Everyone was milling about taking it all in, and it was a real good time.

Not to take from the thread or make it harder on the organizers, however is there any possibility of a road racing event?
That happened one SILV event... it was like a cruise. I have some video of it, but the event had a low turnout and not anything really worth writing home about.

Plus, it was held in Pahrump, about 50 miles out of the city. The LVMS road course is too expensive to rent to even consider it.

the karting is a better gauge if you wanna see who the bester drivers are vs. who has the fastest car. then again, if you're +200lbs, karting is a difficult event for you to do well at.

As an avid Supra fan and owner I think Jaws Gear had well intentions but, I do think the majority of us just want to meet and greet. I will call the Luxor Hotel tomorrow and see what it will take to use their parking lot for a show and shine and we can all still meet and keep the same schedule as Jaws Gear with the Go carting, Show and shine, and Canyon ride as done in the past. We can all meet at the drag strip and where some can enter their cars for racing that night against other cars. I’m sure everyone wouldn't mind seeing the non big time racers run their Supra’s against other cars. I am still going regardless if Jaws Gear is pulling out. Please keep your reservations and go. If anyone else has a suggestion then put them out there. Please list your name if you’re still going.
I set up an new thread in National Event called LAS VEGAS SUPRA MEET. Please comment there please

That is a great idea and I would suggest it. As far as information this is what you would need to know.....

Luxor would not do anything for us to accomidate but I am sure you could just park all the cars in one spot like on the roof of the parking garage.

There is a event going on at the track called Street Wars if anyone wants to run as well as "fun runs" I am sure you could run as well.

Again, I am sorry and apologize for the cancelation I hope you guys have a good time and can make it work.

As I wish the sponsors that said they were going to step up and commited verbally would have done what they said they were going to do. If anyone had $5000.00 they want to give up we would happily move forward with the whole event. Unfortunately it cost money to do these events and I cannot afford to pay for everything out of my pocket. I have already taken a $8K hit from my wallet not including the sponsors I am going to refund which is an additional $2K. All I can do is apologize and move forward.

I totally understand...not blaming you at all, it sucks the sponsors never ended up doing what they said they were going to do. Do I wish we had a couple more weeks to better plan? Yes
Is it at all your faut? NO

I was merely stating that a large drag racing event costs large amounts of money as to where a simple meet and greet with a cruise thrown in there is not as pricey...but that sort of thing is probobly not your cup of tea just as it is not for everybody to drive to vegas just for this. So I understand whrere your coming from and I thank you for taking this on in the first place!

Well that would be okay if people actually signed up for the other things too. The Car show was to be at the track during the racing. I suppose people could have a random gathering if wanted and it would not cost anything. Dyno I had 4 people sign up for, and the track issue we are working another angle as this is the main reason we stepped in to do an event this year. The scenic drive has been dropped by two coordinators thus far, nobody could decide and take charge of it.

I am working with Frank and Dana in Vegas to see what options we can come up with. I will keep you guys updated in the next couple days. Main thing we need is about 3K from sponsors and racers to come out and play.

Sin City Showdown is back on thanks to a few sponsors that have stepped up we have got some people really committed to make it happen. We will proceed as scheduled. We are still short the target number but I feel confident that we will get there.

If you guys want a scenic drive now is the time for a coordinator to step up and take charge of it. We could use the help in that area.

We are also going to add in an additional class to the racing to help with car count and make it worth the effort. More details will be posted before end of day for the additional class.

Sorry for the post but without you guys supporting it is a difficult task to make successful.

I think the Show 'N Shine check-in time should be 11:00 a.m. Guys are going to be out late Friday night/early Saturday morning and will have to make time to clean their cars later on Saturday morning. The proposed start time is entirely too early, IMO. Because the racing will be going on long after the Show 'N Shine check-in time of 11:00 a.m. (if my suggestion is approved), the events should mesh quite nicely and should keep things interesting for fans and participants alike.

We're creatures of habit, and even though this is not SILV, bear in mind that the typical S 'N S check-in time was noon, with the event officially kicking of at 2:00 p.m. I recommend you not diverge from this tradition too much or risk damage to the event before it has a chance to get started.
