Ladies and Gents,
As I investigate, plan, and coordinate this event, I will post up important information here in this thread.
Right now, in the initial planning stages, I want to get a feel for what the people really want. It seemed that last year having a destination and having food made the event much more appealing. Naturally, this year I have to step my game up. IMO it is crucial to have the drive, the scenery, some food, and a destination. That time to eat, drink, socialize, and take pictures is very important to the camaraderie of the event I think.
As I posted in the other thread, Mt. Charleston was my first thought. There is the Mt. Charleston Lodge (http://www.mtcharlestonlodge.com/) up there that would be a cool place to stop, take some pictures, eat and drink. However, I was thinking of a place that allowed more of an activity. We already have poker in the works, and possible karting, so what's left?
How about shooting? There's a place in Boulder City called the Desert Lake Shooting Club (http://www.desertlakeshooting.com). It has great scenery, a drive, a nice bar, food, and they offer
• 20 Station Sporting Clays Course
• All automatic traps
• 300 yd. rifle range with target stands and 5 covered shooting positions
• 4 - 50 yd. pistol range with metal reactive targets
• Skeet & Wobble Trap
• 3-D Archery Range
Personally I love the sport of shooting but I have never done any trap or skeet, and certainly not sporting clays. However, I would love to try it and I think that this could be awesome. Of course shooting would add cost (ammunition, gun rental, etc.) but it could be awesome. Even if all we did was the pistol range with the reactive targets, that could be fun.
So I am posting a poll. I'm getting prices and information from all sources, but it would definitely help if I better knew what the people wanted. Pick which one sounds best to you and we'll go from there. I encourage you to click the links and check out the possibilities.

Alright. I've got a couple of suggestions for the scenic drive. I just drove this drive last month with my IS250. The route could be divided up, as there were some sports that were not paved (less than 1/2 mile total) but they were under construction, and I think that they will be done by the meet.
anyrate, I would like to suggest the northshore road through lake mead national recreation area, circling up north and going through Valley of Fire National Park, and back down the I-15. If the roads aren't completely paved by that time I recommend bypassing the lake mead part, and kicking it straight up to Valley of Fire National Park, to North shore road, and then maybe through Overton,NV.
I have a map saved that I've been trying to upload for a while, but I'm partially retarded today, I can e-mail the routes to some one.
I will also be able to check up and see how the construction is going. Other than the the couple three spots with construction, the road is pretty nice. it has great views, and can get pretty windy at times. The overall route length is somewhere around 130 miles I think. There are also a couple of picnic area that could be rented at Valley of fire for up to 75 people.
There is a $5 charge to get into each of these parks.

My other suggestion would be the area 51 drive. I haven't driven up there myself, so I don't really have any information about it.

Or the Redrock Scenic Drive (Local Favorite) Great group picture opportunity.
http://www.americansouthwest.net/nevada/red_rock_canyon/nca.html
The Park: After being dead straight for 13 miles, Charleston Boulevard bends to the left, becomes Blue Diamond Road (State Route 159) and climbs into the foothills. It follows alongside the cliffs for a few miles while heading south, then curves back east towards the city. One elevated viewpoint (Red Rock Overlook) affords the best overall view of the cliffs, while for closer access there is a paved, 13 mile, one-way scenic drive (open from dawn to dusk), within the National Conservation Area boundaries. The area is administered by the BLM, although as with all other NCA sites, the National Park Service America the Beautiful Pass is valid, and a yearly pass is also available ($20). The standard entry fee (2008) is $5 per vehicle. The park has a good visitor center, plus a museum, book store and gift shop. Backcountry camping is permitted for areas above 5,000 feet elevation (ca. 200 to 700 feet above the scenic drive), and there is one developed campsite, along a short side road forking south off Blue Diamond Road 2 miles east of the visitor center. This is open all year except from June to August when the weather is considered too hot for camping. Points of interest in Red Rock Canyon NCA include narrow canyons, seasonal waterfalls, petroglyphs and pictographs, while besides sight-seeing, the park is popular for hiking, rock climbing, canyoneering and mountain biking. ATVs are not allowed. Apart from the usual Southwestern creatures, wildlife in the area includes herds of wild burros, descendants of animals used by miners early last century.

The Desert Lake Shooting Club is a cool place to go to. I don't have a big collection of firearms (7 Handguns, 2 Assault rifles and a tactical shotgun), but I will share them with members. As far as ammo, the local gun shows are a good place to buy quality ammo in bulk for a very reasonable price. If we ever do decide to go shooting, I can scout on how much ammo would cost so all we have to do it bring our own guns. Unfortunately, if you rent a firearm from them, you may have to use their 'overpriced' ammo (not unless their policy has changed recently.)
If it's pure shooting, would rather go to the Clark County Shooting Park (http://www.accessclarkcounty.com/depts/parks/locations/pages/Shooting_Park.aspx) if it completes prior to our meet. The drive isn't as 'scenic' though but it should be an awesome place to shoot at.

No hurry. It seems that most guys are down with the shooting idea, but still others want to drive in a circle. I am waiting for it to get closer to the date, and then maybe we can get a little more buzz going and try to figure out what the people want.

We did not include it on the site because ther is not really any registration for it. Once a location/route is picked we will post it there for you guys too. Like Chris said, a decesion will be made as it nears closer.
