Does anyone on here know how to remove a breathalyzer? I am getting 1991 Toyota Cressida for free basically and it has a Breathalyzer installed. the cressida's radiator leaks and i would rather uninstall it myself rather than taking it to oldsmar to get it taken out.... is it possible to remove them by myself?

A Breathalyzer? As in the device used to measure your BAC? Installed in a car?

Yeah you have to breath into it in order to start the car, if it detects alcohol, it will not let you start the car.
Might be a good idea to let those that know how to take that out, do the job. It is probably not simple, cuz if it were then people that are forced to have this on the car, could disable them, when they were drinking and driving.

I'd actually bet it is simple, just some sort of cut-off spliced into the ignition wire(s).

its just a thing that looks like a walkie talkie you breath into with a wire thats tucked into the dash and is conected to the main harness im guessing.... im just gonna have a professional do it.

Quit drinking, then when you sober up, blow into it, then the car will start!

I saw one on a mini-van that came into the shop. It was setup extremely simple. It had wires that ran into the engine bay and interrupted the coil wire. (literally a box zip-tied around the coil to distributor wire) I doubt they are all setup this way, but I'm sure it would either cut ignition power, or power to the starter.

What you saw was the sensor that tells the device the car is running.

It has nothing to do with interrupting the ignition.

The device is live connected to the local authority and is quite complex but......what it does to disable the car is relatively simple.

Get down and follow the wires........pretty simple since they picked up former circuit city radio installers meaning you will have no trouble distinguishing the non-factory wiring from what is factory.

pulleze ... ANYONE that has done a motor swap and understands the wiring in these cars can easily either remove or bypass them .... no matter WHO installed them!

It's no harder than removing an aftermarket car alarm ... :gtfo:
