View Full Version : Best way to route electronics into glovebox?

I know a lot of people with MKIV's have electronics (ie: HKS VPC, GCC, etc.) in their gloveboxes. I need to move my current electronics there (previously installed by old owner into my center console), but was wondering how people go about doing it. It seems to me that you would be forced to cut holes somewhere...and I'm curious where people are cutting or if there are options that I'm overlooking.

Ideally, I just want to mount the VPC on the left hand side of the glovebox, and the GCC already sticks to the top of the VPC via velcro. Are there any VPC-sized brackets that people are using, or are you fabricating your own to hold it there? The wiring is more of an issue to me...so please let me know what you guys have done.

Your opinions and thoughts are welcome...thanks in advance for any help. :)

Wow! No replies whatsoever? Is this something far more mysterious and sinister than I ever thought or just a completely naive question? Heheheheh. :)

Never FEAR!!! CF Glove box Holder is Here!!! lol, That's the only way How i got mine in the glove box. But you must cut a small spot in the back of the glove box to route the Wires back to the ECU and Harnesses. Thanks!!

Thanks for your lone reply Chris. So it's basically just as I thought...a custom bracket for me to hold my VPC in place and a small hole cut in the back of the glovebox to route the wiring. I'm guessing that if I remove the glovebox it will be far easier to plan this "attack". :)

Yep... that's how I have mine. But be forewarned... it's easy to get the glove box out ...but can be tricky to get it back in!

You're a smart guy... I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out. (If not just post back here for more help ;) ) :D :D

Curt,

That was my first thought as well...but I'm guessing it's really really hard to keep those dials from being messed with. I like to show off my car at local Supra meets (not that there is that much to see!) but those are devices I don't want as easily accessed...just in case. ;)

You just go through the yellow/orange grommet on the firewall. You can find them on either side of the car IIRC. I didn't even have to drill holes in the glovebox as I wrapped the cable in around the side/top. :)

Yeah, I did that, the 1st time, but as I am putting more and more things in there I don't want to run a bunch of wires over the top.

Another good option is to run the wires through the big rubber grommet where the main wiring harness comes through the firewall on the passenger side.

If you want to e-mail Jeremy at SpeedForSale.com, he's custom making glovebox panels and can instruct you on how to install them to get the wiring through, etc.

i installed my VPC in my glovebox. i had to just put the wires through a hole that i cut with a dremel tool and then mounted it in the glove box with its bracket. works great and is a perfect fit with no problems at all.
