Post a vid of you spanking an 1199 at the track.
And by track, we all collectively mean one with turns.

nice runs
would have thought the panigale would put up a bit better fight. That was nowhere near close. Looks to me like a K7 1000 Gixxer with PCV/Exhaust would put a better fight than that.
Panigale looks awesome though :)

Speak for yourself.
Don't worry, Eugene, there's always some laptime quoting track snobs in every car/bike thread. But, but, let's see what your *insert awesome car* would do against a Miata at an autocross? :ugh2: Nobody gives a shit.

it is no secret that im not a road racer, i was just having fun with a good friend of mine.
there are plenty of tests/reviews out there where the 2012 S1000RR turned out quicker lap times than the panigale

Don't worry, theres always some nutswinger who never seems to remember Ducati doesn't give a shit about having the most horsepower or straightline speed. Their focus has always been to have bikes that will dominate on a road course. Both bikes are what they are...each has a different purpose.

Wtf lol, where all these haters coming from?
If there supposed to dominate on the track, why do all the magazine reviews show it slower than the BMW and even other bikes? Lmfao

Yea, no need to hate.. In the end, you buy what bike you have love for. I will ALWAYS have loyalty to Ducati because I've owned and raced them. It's gonna be hard for me to EVER buy anything different regardless of reviews, straightline speed, dyno power and heated grips.. lol
The BMW is a great bike and I give them serious respect for throwing their hat into the Superbike ring. Hating on RussianMKIV for posting this video is just like hating on the mustang driver that smokes his buddies $250K Ferrari at the drag strip.

And I can appreciate that Tom, as I am the same way with BMW, bikes and cars. I just have blind love for them no matter what, didn't hurt that their bike is the top dog currently.

Oh, no doubt the BMW is still one of the best all-around bikes out there. I STILL get giddy when I think about riding one for 2 days at Infineon for California Superbike School back in April. Pretty much instantly felt at ease on it, which is awesome in itself given it was the most powerful and technologically advanced bike I'd ever ridden....but even moreso that it was on a track I'd never been on before--which also happens to be one of the most demanding racetracks in the country.
I'm just now getting to that comfort level on the Duc on the track, which is yet another testament to the S1000RR. The electronics make that bike so inviting to push. My 848 has no electronic gadgetry: no ABS, no lean-angle sensing TC, no selectable mapping, no quickshifter, no anti-wheelie control, etc....not even a slipper clutch.
All that I have to mentally monitor was taking (and still will) focus away from the tasks at hand. The BMW just allows you to ride.
You DO have an amazing bike. Just frustrating to hear you discount other bikes for doing worse than yours at something it inherantly never was designed to do well.
FWIW, I ended up significantly quicker my first time @ BIR on the Duc than I ended up my first td @ BIR on the GSX-R. Yes, part of it was because I knew the track (having already been on it a year earlier), but mainly due to my drives out of the corners....which is partly what Ducati is about.
Wow I can't believe that espacially after the way ducati sold that bike as the fastest na liter bike on the planet..... I still like the traction controll and abs on the 1198. And the ducati looks way better imho.

I never discounted the duc or ever said its a bad bike,
I do think it was over hyped a bit but that's just mho. I get why people love them and I can't blame anyone for buying one.
Just I wouldn't ever buy one : p

If coming from a lot of riding experience with bikes that have no gadgettry, does it throw you off when you first ride one like the S1K? I've never ridden an S1K but have a lot of experience on various other bikes with no gadgets, so I feel that I would expect the bike to do this if I did that and if the bike didn't it would throw me off(mentally).

Don't really see how/why it would throw you off, the only bike I rode before the BMW was a zx6, biggest difference was the insane power, and lots of it.

Man, your bike absolutely flies! Awesome job! :bigthumb:
Add me to the list of people who would rather own the Ducati, but there is no denying the ability of the S1000RR! That is a very bad kid...I just wish they'd make it look *nicer* (subjective, I know).

Is the S1000RR pretty comfortable to ride? I've never even sat on one so have no reference for it. I've heard that the Panigale is actually very comfortable relative to older Ducatis (I sat on one, but didn't ride it), and I've only ridden a 748, a 916, and a Monster 796 at this point in the Ducati line. I have no experience with any BMW models.

a lot more comfortable than an 848 evo and 1198 that i rode. with the custom seat i had made its night and day diff with a stock s1000rr on top of that. that said i still get pretty tired after 1hr+ of riding non stop but thats because of my back issues.

Shoot, most people's issue with the S1k's looks are the asymetrical headlights.

Problem is fixed with track bodywork. :-)

lol, theres also a company that makes a plastic cover for the headlight to make them look symmetrical.

Thanks bud...good feedback. My CBR is plenty comfortable to ride and I can ride it for quite some time, whereas my Daytona 675 is a mobile torture chamber in comparison (it's going away to make room for a Ducati Monster soon).

My problem with them is indeed the asymmetrical headlight design...I cannot stand that. The bike looks terrific with track bodywork! :)

Sounds like something I'd want to invest in if I bought an S1000RR! I may still go on to check out that bike before I buy my next superbike.

do yourself a favor and ride one at least, dont pay attention to the lights as that can be 'fixed'

Yeah, absolutely right. Just knowing it's something cosmetic that I could deal with is enough to make me want to give the bike a fair shot. The fact that it's the speed champ has always impressed me!
RussianMKIV
06-07-2012, 10:23 PM
theres more to it than just a speed champ. every review i've seen/read agreed that it is the best mannered street bike while being top dog on the track, and drag strip. unless you just have to have a ducati (which theres nothing wrong with) the BMW is a no brainer of a choice imo.

I'll have a Ducati regardless, but not necessarily as our super sport bike. Since we plan to remain a 2 bike household, variety is permitted! :)
This year we are actively planning to swap the D675 for a Ducati Monster 796, and maybe next year I can upgrade my older CBR into *something*, but that something could be a newer CBR (love them), another Ducati, or a BMW! All good choices, just very different bikes.
*edit* I joined up on s1000rrforum.com to read up more about the bikes, and listed you as my referrer. Also, congratulations on winning bike of the month honors over there a few months back!

Not sure if agreeing or disagreeing with me... But either way, you're proving my point.
These two bikes are at the top of my list for my next 1000s, with the Duc in 1st. That doesn't mean I'm going to run around crying, "oh yeah, well let's see you beat one on the track!" The internet is just filled with people who rush to defend things that don't need defending.
