Finally got around to weighing some of the stuff off of the silver parts car. Just thought I would let everyone know.

Auto tranny (no fluid): 175lbs
Manual tranny (no fluid, clutch, pressure plate):115
3.9 Differential (with fluid): 85
Fenders: 10
Catback and cat: 32
CT-26 (with out elbow): 24
Exhaust manifold: 18
A/C compressor: 16
Auto Starter: 10
Crankshaft: 54
Door (without interior pannels, speaker assembly, or sideview mirror): 75

If I get some of the weights of some other stuff, I'll post that too.

Damn...some of that stuff seems ridiculaously heavy...but I'm also used to the weights in my 89 rex. The many trany in the rex only weighed in at like 70lbs...if that much. I wonder if I could find a way to mount that bastard on my MKIII...thats 35lbs. Also seems to be time to start cutting metal out of my doors.

How much do the sawblades and tires together weigh? I thought they would be heavy but I took one off the other day and it seemed relatively light for it's size...Not as light as the 15'' rex wheels that will be going on...if they can fit around the calipers and shit.

Also interested in these things:

Pass/Drvr/seat seats...seperate

Targa roof

hatch glass/door windows

spare tire

There seems to be a few things I'm forgetting but it's not important. If you happen to know these weights or feel like going out of your way to find out I would appreciate it.

I did weigh the sawblade with tire once, I think it was 45 lbs. I think the targa is like 40 lbls too. I'll see if I can get some of the other stuff that you asked for.

Oh yea and just to clarify the manual tranny I weighed is the R-154 turbo tranny.

Good work OneWingedAngel.

I've seen some others post a list of items, and how much they weigh.

We should compile this information and stick it under one thread in the FAQ section (you know, where nobody ever looks :twak: ).

Nah, nobody would say that, they are great cars. Just don't get hit by one of the "rolling tank MKIII's" in one of them.

:D

I've seen an MKIII hit a Volvo, and the Volvo was smashed all to heck, and barely a dent in the MKIII.

I felt proud. :)

Cheers........Sdude.

Fuck me! I thought it was 140lbs! Shit!
I had that damn thing on my chest and I thought I was going to die.
The MT weight you posted is, I suppose, an R154, is it not? I need a W58 weight.

My Weight Findings:

Block only with oil pan and pump in (no crank or pistons) = 140 LBS

Total weight of block with pistsons, crank, oil pump, pan, A/C compressor bracket, water pump, pulley, ect. came to a total weight of 260 lbs!

What year engines are you guys getting these 53 and 54 pound crankshaft weights from? I weighed my '91 engine's crank and it was 58lbs.

The big problem though is that it's easy to remove weight from the rear. There is a lot of stuff back there thats heavy and disposable. Rear tire, sound deadening, back seats, etc...

Not much heavy stuff can be easily taken out of the front though. Charcoal cannister and EGR only weigh a few lbs. each. Battery relocation would be a good thing to do and a CF hood. Racing seats are good, but they happen to fall right on top of the cars center of gravity and don't help front to rear distribution at all.

the Sawblades weigh 24lbs?! cripes, glad i have a MA71...

How much do those 5 stars weigh w/o the tire? anyone?

Can you take all the power motors and stuff out of the driver seat and still have it feel normal? Like, say, you adjusted it to just the way you like it and then pull all the electrical junk out.

Makenzie, do you rally think that the RX7 Ribcase will hold up to the torque of the 7M and live w/ having to move this Lead-ass car around??? Ive heard of people upgrading the primary and secondary gearsets, only to blow the whole shaft out the side of the case....gears intact.

I almost forgot, as far as front weight reduction...heres some thoughts:

Remove ABS unit
Relocate Battery
Remove Vapor canister
Remove any Non-essential engine accessories (emissions pump, Air pump..whatever)
Replace Pop-up light mechanism w/ stationary light fixtures.
Replace Front calipers w/ Celica/Tundra/Tacoma brakes (is it possible, my friend put Celica brakes on his MKIV *shrugs*)
Replace tires w/ 40/45 series tires.
CF or 'Glas hood
Replace entire hood latch assembly w/ Rally-spec hood pins (Sparco)
Replace Clutch fan w/ Derale/FAL electric fan
AEM/HKS cam gears (lighter than stock due to materials?)
UR racing pully's
Replace TEMS w/ manually adj. shocks, your choice (Switch to Koni adjustables, save you a few pounds and help you get the holeshot!)
Replace Steering rack w/ a rack from a ________(i dont know)

There already is a compellation of weights. I've been maintaining the A70 Weight index for a few years now.

Available in both Adobe PDF http://trdsupra.com/library/A70WeightIndex.pdf

And Micro$oft Excel Format http://trdsupra.com/library/A70WeightIndex.xls

The most current version can always be found at www.trdsupra.com

Feel free to link to my site in reference, but please don't host these files yourself. That way the most current version is always the one referenced.

I know, old thread, but...does anybody know how much a factory 5-spoke MKIII wheel weighs? (91-92) I'm considering these to replace my sawblades but I don't know how they stack up against aftermarket wheels in the weight department.

I hit a volvo!!!!!! bent the metal suport on my old red 88 N/A, got a new bumper for it from the junk and its good as new. I even took it to a body shop to see if the body was good and its fine.

Kind of bent his car, drove mine home! with a grin on my face because his was wrecked. :bigthumb:

When I purchased my set that was imported from Japan, they were quoted as being 16 lbs a piece (the ups box weight reflected this also). Lets do the math...

4 sawblades @ 24lbs = 96 lbs

4 five spokes @ 16lbs = 64 lbs

That is a reduction of 32 lbs of unsprung weight...NICE!!!
(of course this assumes the above weights are accurate)

Does anyone have the ability to weigh the non-polished MKIV wheels at all?

Also... wasn't there a pdf file or maybe a website that had a whole bunch of different mkiii parts weights? It was by some guy who had access to a very accurate military scale? Anyone know what i'm talking about?
