    Man this thread is gold.

    Here's my .02

I bought my car with a Boost Logic auto and a PI stalled converter, but before I even bought the car I knew it was getting a 6spd, sure it won't be as fast and I'll probably break more parts at the track than with an auto, but the fact of the matter is I wanted to row gears, it's more fun, period(imo), and I bought this car to have fun, not break records.

Ended up going with the T56 Magnum and I love it, have about 7K total in the swap with a nice twin, 7K barely buys a used V160 so anyone saying the cost between the two is similar is simply mistaken.

Anyways, as mentioned, it's all in what you're looking for.

If you said v160 or t56? then the debate would be understandable.
But auto vs manual? this is like the youtube comments on a 1320 video.
The two methods of driving are complete opposites. You either want a manual gearbox or you dont.
i'm not letting anyone decide what trans i'm gonna run...re-read the op.

ive been out of the supra game for a few years and wanted to see what options there were out there because the v160/1 is expensive and hard to find. i know vast improvements have been made on autos over the years plus ive never been in a supra w/built auto. i was hoping for a cheaper/better alternative. i am happy to see that there are...just doing research on it. thanks guys or the imput so far, but i didn't know it would cause a firestorm

You asked who "went from manual to auto and loved it". Its just not a typical question given the affinity towards manual transmission shown by most owners on this forum.
I was gonna write a long post about it but I stopped because who cares. I still think you should decide what kind of car you want. No one posting here is going to give you the right advice but yourself. In the end its your money.

Got a poll for that? If there is a significant forum preference, I doubt it is much over 50%.
I learned a long time ago not to assume my preference is that of the majority.
Anyway, he has a choice and asked for input - not for direction. He obviously had a manual before and wants opinions from the "other side"!

The T56 Magnum swap also cost over a thousand dollars more than cd009.

Think about how many guys in the LS community run a T56 at 1000+ hp.....

And now think of cd009 guys running that much power.

If I had an auto and wanted to swap I'd go T56....more support, more strength, etc.

    OP wants to row gears.

    Get a six speed.

I do not have statistics and I do not think I speak for the majority as I dont really care if car has a v160 or whatever. But from speaking with tons of supra enthusiasts I think that given the option the majority would choose a 6 speed car.

Dont want to make this into a debate or anything. Just an opinion ive gathered over time.
And to the main point, I still dont understand. Maybe its just me but I never have the thought "auto or manual?". You either want it or you dont.

That might be a bit of a stretch but it's all relative. Some argue that a R154 is a great bang for the buck, step up some more and get a cd009, step up more and get a T56 and once again and get a V160. It's a matter of balancing cost/reward. Looking at the clutch options for the T56, it may actually be several thousand dollars more than cd009.

    HI
I'm getting ready to drop in the Getrag 420 6 speed (420G), Collins adapter makes the cutom flywheel and adapter plate, you will use your oem clutch master cylinder, the clutch/brake pedal set, if you have non or need to convert, and the BMW slave and throw out bearing and clutch hose, dot 4 brake fluid.
The driveshaft I'm working with them to have it made as well. Gear ratio's and durability/strength is the same, made by ZF/Getrag.
As far as the shifter placement, its dead , on just like the V160/161. No modification of tunnel required, just swap the shifter console from Auto to Manual.

    Will keep you all posted.

    ps started stays the same.

T56 IS an excellent option, and can hold a lot of abuse.
there is one company that makes a drop in adapter kit with driveshaft

The t56 is a great trans. I built my 65 cobra with a 10' gt500 super snake motor with kb4.2lc car makes over 1200hp. No issues at all with this 6 speed trans.

What's the whp record on t56? Ekanoo did 1900 on V160 but only heard about it briefly, which makes me think something let go. Aside from that, I know gallardo's have held 2000, but who feels right spending 10 grand per gear when it goes?

T56 magnum? How do you like the shifter feel? How does it compare to v160?
