when I accelerate at around to say 2,500 or 3,000 RPM or more in any gear and I quickly let off the gas(say in a parking lot) my car will make a clunk sound(it sounds really gheto but it is the best I can describe it) and kind of dive forward. I have slowly gotten in the habbit of putting it in neutral and coasting but it is getting to be a pain, I was thinking maybe driveshaft or engine mounts? or maybe something to do with my leaky Master cylinder? Any comments would be great.
Sounds like a center support bearing maybe. Best way to check is get under the car and give the driveshaft a shake. It should move a little because the bearing is in a rubber support. You'll feel the clunk if it is the bearing. Mine was bad and it moved over an inch either direction Replacement is easy but the bearing is pretty expensive. ($250Cdn from my local dealer)
I drove around with a freind and we think it is in the front area kind of were the Transmission is, but not 100% sure, My transmission is "Whinny" when engaging into 1st gear from a role.Would this have anything to do with it or is it more drive shaft/differential problem as stated above?
I have a simular problem with the clunking. usually when I let off the gas then give it some gas. Sometimes it will also shudder when I take off from first around a corner (feels like Im breaking traction a little, but its a shudder comming from the rear of the car).
i get the clunking too... haven't had the money to have someone track it down and fix it yet, so i can't offer any insight...
but my clunking is getting worse. it happens any time there's a significant change in the car's momentum. ...like Accelerating hard, breaking hard, accelerating a lot then letting off the gas hard... etc. It's taking less and less of a shift in momentum to here the clunk though.
also, the clunk only happens once per momentum-shift-direction, in that i mean that if i'm breaking hard, it'll only clunk once, unless i accelerate again. made me think it was something like motor mounts... something big and heavy shifting around in the engine bay or something... but my motor mounts are fine.
sounds like the center support bearing could be it, i'll give that a try when i can afford to and after i take care of the BHG thing. :\
