    TRD LSD - fluid type?

    Hey Jeff -

What type of fluid is recommended for the TRD LSD? Are we talking stock toyota differential fluid or is something else preferred?

I'm assuming is takes the stock amount of fluid.

    Thanks!

Sounds good...which is preferred - the $3 difference isn't gonna sway me - just which do you recommend?

Also, how does the GM LSD additive work in there?? What I mean is....pour in GM additive and fill the remaining volume w/ the differential fluid right?

Just started driving the car and I notice some strange sounds at VERY low speed when I'm at full turn lock (forward or reverse)...I mean when I'm just creeping at full turn...say 1-3mph.

Sounds like the rear is locking/unlocking or something...however at speed going around turns is perfect and smooth..same for all straight line action.

I'm thinking something may be fishy in whatever fluid they used in there...at very least I want to put in what i KNOW is in there.

I'll phone you in the AM - but wrap that stuff up - what's shipping to Marlton, NJ 08053? I'll take it.

    It sounds to me like
    1. The differential was not broken in correctly. Or is still being broken in, you might need to give it some time.
    2. It might be making noise because of no LSD additive

Thanks Jeff - I'll shoot you a call in the AM.

Actually, another friend of mine mentioned breaking in the diff - other than that no one has ever mentioned that?! I'd say it has ~200-250 miles on it, the guy who mentioned breaking it in...said hit a big parking lot and do some figure 8's for 15min's or so...

I'm gonna swap the fluid and add the LSD additive...any other break-in procedures I should be looking at?

    Thanks!

what is the proper step by step procedure to break in right after installation? do figure 8's? how long and how many miles need to be driven before driving under heavy acceleration???

    Jeff,

Does the additive need to be added to the royal purple oil too? I have heard some people act like the royal purple includes the additive.

Also the Toyota oil you recommended had different numbers than the royal purple is this to break in the diff with?

I was planning on using Valvoline 75w 90 to break it in with then switch to the same weight royal purple afterwards is this OK ??

Is GM the only maker of the additive it needs?

    TIA,
    Anthony
