    Stock head unit/radio installation

I want to sale my stock head unit because I installed an aftermarket one awhile ago. Well, I was trying to test the stock head unit and it wouldnt turn on. Would the stock amp need to be connected in order for the head unit to turn on? I tried hooking up the amp, but still nothing. Input anyone? Thanks in advance.

Did you install the head unit?

Is the stock unit getting power, but no sound?

Is the aftermarket unit still hooked up and working?

the aftermarket head unit is unplugged. no power is going to stock deck whatsoever. but when i plug the cord into the aftermarket head unit, it powers fine.

Depends on what harness you are using for your aftermarket unit. If you are using R6 (15 pin slots) for the aftermarket then you may have an issue, however if you are doing like most and using IH1 joining wire harness (10 pin slot harness on passenger side of tranny behind radio) for aftermarket radio, you need to reconnect the harness otherwise the amp and radio get no power.

My guess is that the joining wire harness is disconnected and as a result the power for the amp and factory head unit "isn't plugged in."

You need to actually bolt the radio back in to give it body ground, or take a wire and ground it and hold it up to the body of the radio. This is another reason why toyota went to a newer style connector with more pins so they could have body ground going straight into the radio
