FYRARMS' Shooting Gallery (The Gun Thread)

All right, shooters, the old "Official Gun Thread" is history. It was deleted with some other giant discussions to make some room in Off-Topic.

This will be the new weapons discussion thread. Please keep it 100% firearm-related.

    No liberal tree-hugging homos allowed.

If you are considering a gun:

My second M4gery build is coming along fairly well. This one will have an HK416-ish flavor. Not an exact clone, but it will have the look.

Couldn't pass on this, though. I almost bought a chromed Young bolt carrier group until I spotted this for sale in the Arfcom classifieds. A new Bushmaster BCG sent to Robar for a coating of NP3. I didn't realize how slick NP3 was! I may have to get a Sig coated with it...

Here's a list of the build components. I will post finished pics when I get them:

    LMT M4 upper receiver
    LMT 14.5" 1/7 twist chrome-lined M4 barrel
Perm-attached SDI extended A2 flash hider
    CMT charging handle
    Badger Ordnance Gen 2 Tac-Latch
    Bushmaster NP3'd BCG
Bushmaster lower receiver, HK selector pictograms
    Bushmaster ambidextrous selector lever
    YHM Specter-length free-float rails
    Midwest Industries mini gas block
Refinish above in HK Black semi-gloss
Centurion Arms HK416-style C4 diopter sights
    Tango Down Battle Grip
    TDI/First Samco HKMP5/PDW-style VFG
    Vltor Carbine Modstock
    LaRue Aimpoint mount
    Aimpoint ML2 sight

Which would you prefer brand wise and why? Para-ord, Spring Field, S&W, Tarus, Kimber, or Colt?

Well, more info would be nice. I assume you are referring to 1911s? All the brands listed make decent guns, and most of them make great guns. What are you looking for? How much money do you want to spend? How will the gun be used most of the time?

This is my type of thread.

Anyway, Kimber is really nice. I have a few and love them.

Also, can I sell guns on here? I need to get rid of a few. I noticed yesterday my safe is so full I can't put my new shotgun in it...

Good luck on getting your pistol back from Robars in a timely manner. I called up a couple of weeks ago to get a timeline on their TAT and it's about 6-8 weeks for NP3.

AR update: Ordered my Timney Trigger last night from POF. Slowly but surely this damn AR15 will come together.

My 10.5" upper has been delivered to a friend of mine. Just waiting to get the Form 1 back, then send the lower to the engraver, then assemble everything, and my SBR will finally be ready to hit the range in basic configuration. All the parts are now here. Its been a while... lower was ordered all the way back in early September.

It is all gone? No ability to search and review past discussion? Wow.

Well I picked up a Yugo M70 in trade for an XBox 360 while the board was down. My friend, who is more knowledgeable on AKs than I am, seems to think that the value of it will not depreciate if I fire it (unfired M70.) I however don't buy that so I am reluctant to shoot it, but 15 cents a round sounds a lot better than what it cost these days to shoot the AR.

Anyone know the place to get a decent deal on a quality Drum for the AK?

Just went to a local shop yesterday.

They had just sold a used PTR91K for less than $900. Dealer stated "Fit and finish was excellent." Missed it by 2 months.

Had an FS2000 in stock. Nice CQB rifle... very very compact. Dan, you'll have to give us a review if you get one and put some rounds through it.

We talked SOCOM M1A too, since they had it on the shelf. Not too intimidating to bystanders, but highly effective. Not to sure about the lack of pistol grip.. but then again.. that's why its non-descript.

As long as you keep the gun in good shape (clean and oil after shooting) there should be no significant devaluation from shooting it. M70's are all over the place (kit builds, which I'm sure is what you have). So they're not going to be going up in value much. The little bit of devaluation is not worth the disappointment of not being able to shoot it. Guns are for putting holes in stuff, not to look at

The best AK drums are the chi-com ones. The come with a price premium (still much cheaper than the AR equivelant) but are worth it. All the others you have to load from the top. With drums, you can't leave the springs loaded like you can with magazines. It's a different type of spring that will lose tension. But with the chinese ones, you can load them from the back (much faster) then only put tension on it by winding it up when you go out to shoot.

I wouldnt even touch a yugo or romy drum unless it was under 30 bucks.

    current prices.
    romy/yugo/russ/etc drums ~100 bucks
    chicoms ~120 bucks

Because my ninja skills aren't as polished as they used to be.

I think my purchase may have to wait. SIGARMS is shipping the Sig556 this month. I may have to dish out $1300 or so in a hurry.

I heard the Chinese Drums are made of a thinner metal that will dent easily. I do have a tendency to drop things . . But thank-you for the info on the springs!

My chicoms have been great. The metal seems the same as regular mags. I can take some comparative shots if you'd like. Like all AK stuff, if you actualy mess it up, you must be using a 8lb sledgehammer.

The loading differences and spring issues absolutely make it worth it. Like a minute with the chicoms or 10 minutes fighting the spring pressure with your thumb on the other ones.

Sorry for the small pic, the full-res is at home. I finally got the scope on the AR for deer season.

And yes, I adjusted the scope before getting it boresighted, it was a little off in that pic, hah.

Hey all, im rly new on the gun scene.. My dad said he would let me get my first one and I would like some suggestions. The price limit is like $300 or so. This is my first gun so im not looking for anything special, I couldnt care less how strong it is. What im really looking for is just one that looks awesome. Criteria:

    1) Up to $400
    2) Rifle (the not pistol kind)
    3) Must have lots of rails for addons (red laser, green laser, flashlight, and scope)

I plan on adding a green laser and a red one. I will also add a flashlight and a scope. Yea plz dont flame me I bet I sound stupid. But seriously!! Plz give me recommendations. Links would be awesome. THANKS!

(scope at the rear, others in front)

BTW, now I know how the n00bs feel when they ask for help in the computer threads
