That looks like it has the potential to be cool.... What's the plan for the barrel/optics setup?
That looks like it has the potential to be cool.... What's the plan for the barrel/optics setup?
Barrel: tentatively (assuming he gets them back in stock soon, going to call him tomorrow) is going to be a Denny's GTS Operator medium weight chrome lined 1/7 16"
Handguard I'm still undecided on but it will most likely be a 4 rail rifle length. Larue looks good as does DD, but the YHM lightweight is the lightest and will get consideration.
Optics: I'm looking into what the best bang for buck 1-4x optic is, and it will go into a Larue SPR-E mount. If I can't find a suitable optic of that sort in my price range (that meets the standards I have set forth for myself) I may just throw an aimpoint m2 on it and pick up a Super Sniper 10x42 for precision work.
So lets play a game fellow gun guys.....
I've got several guns I want to get refinished. I shipped out the slide of my Tactical Sport off late last week to be Cerakoted black, with brushed steel ridges in the serrations. I'm also planning on doing all my controls, and maybe the magwell in black Cerakote as well. The frame is waiting for it's time at my local platers. He's had some family issues (wife found out she had the big C recently) so he's a little backed up. I'm trying to trade him a web site (he doesn't have one) for a bunch of refinish work. As of right now, I'm planning on doing the frame in brushed hard chrome over nickel (to help fend corrosion).
That leaves me with a couple other guns, and some ideas I've had. Specifically, the first one I'm thinking of is my newly acquired '75SA which is going to be my production gun.
Having a hard time deciding between a reverse two-tone, or make it a better copy of my old stainless.
For reference, I was thinking of doing it in all hardchrome, with polished flats, matte rounds. Like this '97 done by Fords. Would probably toss on my cocobolo grips, or maybe have some done up in the pink/purple/red wood that I have.
'97
Old Stainless gun with grips I was talking about:
My other idea is to pretty much copy another '75 I seen. This would be the reverse two tone look:
I also plan on getting another '75SA to do up as a tuned SA with Novaks, so what I don't do to this one, will probably end up on the other. Usually having pretty guns goes against my style, but I might getting this free/cheap, so why the hell not?! Of course I'm open to new ideas as well.... I actually have a hankerin for an old school cool blued gun, with some ironwood or similar gips, but my plating buddy unfortunately doesn't do blueing, so that would cost me decent $$.

Is that the Vltor EMod buttstock?
Isn't Cerakote the "spray-paint and bake" treatment?
As for your options, I like the premise of the '97 you posted, but the bare metal would tend to bother me. Something like that in a more highly polished finish combined with the matte/satin counterpart might look good.
Alternatively, Sig Sauer Equinox treatment.

"Sometimes, it's better to be lucky than to be good but it's always better to be both."
Yep -- that's the same EMOD I just got. Far superior cheek weld to the CTR, and feels sturdy as well. No locking issues -- locks about 95% as tight as the CTR.
Yep, Cerakote is one of the bake-on finishes. I hear it's actually pretty decent, but I've never tried it. I caught a deal on it ($35 for the slide), so I figured why not.... The slide of that gun won't see a whole lot of wear, as the Ghost Holster I use attaches to the trigger-guard, and rubs the frame raw rather quickly, hence the plating there.
As for the '97, that's not bare metal. That's hard chrome plating, with matte rounds and brushed flats (the shiney parts). It looks kinda like brushed stainless, but it's a plating. Hard Chrome is pretty good shit, so I'm not too worried about it wearing out. The stainless '75 is raw metal, but it's stainless steel so I didn't worry about it fending corrosion either. This was the TS before I stripped it down to send it out.... It's carbon steel, in the raw. You can see how quickly that stuff starts to corrode and rust/discolor on you. This was after about a week of "neglect":
Ignore the slide, as that's a standard '75 slide I swapped on to show someone. Still can't make it out real clearly in the pictures, but the bare frame really does look like shit in person. Especially around the rear grip/beavertail area, light dustings of rust would appear overnight, and the whole thing had this nasty blackish oxidation on it that made my hands smell funny. Oh well, no biggie![]()
I dig the Equinox treatment, and had thought about doing something like that. Unfortunately, the CZ slide doesn't really lend itself well to that I don't think. Not enough contours on it.
Question for FYRARMS, can you recommend a gun store near or around Chicago?
Well, there are a LOT. But, in all honesty, I only trust one. If you feel like making the drive, Megasports in Plainfield is your best bet. They are just west of the Louis-Joliet mall on Rt. 30. Their prices are so-so, but they are very honest and knowledgable guys. They have a pretty good selection of rental guns as well.
Well I pulled the trigger today on getting a shotgun.
I put an 870 Express on order. I got the black synth with 18barrell with 7 shot capacity.
I went in with the intention of getting the Mossberg tactical, but the owner talked me out of with with his gripes on Mossberg.
Also getting a $30 rebate from Remmy so thats nice too.

Atta boy!![]()
Dealer got my SWR Trident 9 in last week. Was finally able to go do all the paperwork/fingerprints/CLEO sig/etc. on it today to start the Form 4 process to transfer it to me.
That thing is sexy as fuck. Period. Still debating which host gun to go with. Most likely the Sig P226 tactical. But damn that H&K 9mm Tactical looked sexy with the suppressor on it too...
Hopefully I'll have the Trident in my possession by Christmas.![]()
any Galil opinions? We've got a bushy that just gathers dust I want something new. And original IMI .308 Galils seem nice but I don't know anyone or any place that has one I can shoot. Anyone got some first hand experience?
I picked an 870 up as well on Monday. This is only going to be a deer gun, so i don't really have any grand plans for it. I went with the 20" rifled barrel with rifle sites. Hopefully it will be a great first deer season for me! Where did u pick up the rebate? Is it something i can get off remington's website?
The 308's are pretty big money I thought?.
I had a 223 Galil for a weekend, and it was pretty neat. It shot well, and was fairly ergonomic. My only bitch with it is that it was kinda heavy (though in the days of 10lb "carbines", I guess that's relative), and didn't look like there would be a good way to mount optics on it.
Have you thought about a FAL? I've always thought those things were pretty tits for 308 battle rifles.
The FAL is the closest thing to a perfect battle rifle as you can get. I hope to add a DSA 16" FAL to my collection later this fall.
I'm a gun guy. I like them all, and I'm pretty sure I'm a half way decent shot.
However with a recent string of burgurlaries in the county and my hankering for a home defense gun I've decided to start actively looking. My wife, suprisingly, also wants to be able to use and shoot it. Her quote:
"I want something thats going to shoot fast and that has a lot of ammo."
So we're looking into semi-auto clip fed. She's like 115lbs soaking wet and is a very girlie girl, so I'll need something easy to shoot. I was originally thinking of a Saiga, but I dunno how much of multi-round 12ga kicks my wife will be able to handle.
Ohh, no pistols. I live in NY so take that into consideration.
Supraforums:
On tubal ligation: It's nice to know that Octo-mom can have as many welfare-sucking crotch droppings as she wants and women who DON'T want children have to fucking be patronized because we "might change our minds one day".
On gays: Never saw a dog walking around in drag waving a rainbow colored flag trying to throw dicks in people faces
On Women: Women are retards, nudes or ban.
NAACP: National Association for the Aggravation of Caucasion People.
Jail Time: Do X, blow your cellmate.
If you want a magazine-fed, semi-automatic shotgun, I think the Saiga is one of your only realistic choices. If having a removable magazine is not a pre-requisite, it seems like the Mossberg 930 SPX is one of the best values for a semi-auto shotgun. If you have the coin, you can also look at the FNH SLP or a Benelli.
I doubt any of them will be a ton of fun for a 115 lbs woman looking to "shoot fast." If you are implying that it's difficult for you to own a handgun, I imagine owning a carbine like an AR-based rifle won't be any easier.
You are definitely not a gun guy. No educated gun guy would place his own wife's life on the line with a Hi-Point to protect her.
I am not familiar with the gun laws in your area, but if a shotgun is out of the question, I would recommend an AR15 variant, AK variant, or a Ruger Mini-14 if you can't own "assault rifles" in your area. I would still recommend a shotgun over the rifles, and there are low-recoil 12ga self-defense rounds available. Consider a 20ga as well.
Anyone see the new gun STI is pushing out?
Ugly as hell I think, but supposedly the trigger is to die for. Also uses some sort of rotating barrel deal, which helps cut down recoil. Word is STI is bringing this gun over specifically to do battle in USPSA production class, so I'm thinking it might be the real deal. I can't see STI fucking around much, as they know the race gun market pretty well.
Hmmmm... STI made a GlockSigCZ looking thing. Nifty.STI makes awesome pistols, period. Even the lower-end 1911s with the Armscor frames are nice as hell. This could be a great gun.
