Woohooo! Just got a call my EBR has arrived. Will have pics in the next couple of days.

Funny thing was, I had visited the shop two days in a row asking if they had heard anything about the backorder (since October 08) and to fondle other guns. Last night, we talked about other EBRs: LWRC, Sig Classic.

BTW: Aim has Russian surplus .223 and .308 in stock.

Not to be picky but Wolf is actually new production ammo not surplus.

BTW James, I just discovered that Mendelson's stocks ammo cans. Not sure if you need any but I'm going to try and pop down there yet this week or next.

So I decided to finish up the SBR. What the hell, I had most of the parts laying around anyways. Found the rail and upper to finish her off this week. It's about 90% complete. My dumbass ordered the wrong upper. I need to order up the forward assist and dust cover assembly. Only other accessories I will add is the BUIS , a forward grip and maybe a flashlight.

Let's get on with the crappy pics.

    The FrankenAR parts list:

    Sun Devil Lower
    RRA Parts kit
    Magpul MIAD
    Magpul ASP sling plate
    Northeastern Tactical Sling
    LMT SOPMOD
    Mega Upper and charging handle
Larue Tactical BCG (which is really a JP BCG)
    LaRue Tactical Mount
    Aimpoint ML3
    YHM low profile gas block
    Daniel Defense 10" Lite Rail
Saber Defence 10.5" 1:7 twist CM barrel
Noveske KX3 (still need to tighten it all the way down)

Who do you think I am? Alpha?

But seriously, I don't know if I am or not. You see where the KX3 leaves a gap near the rail? That gap bothers me a little. I am thinking about cutting the barrel back ever so slightly to have the KX3 mate up to the rail. If I do that, there won't be enough threads left on the barrel extended over the rail for a suppressor to screw on. Plus, I really would like to keep the weight down on this thing. I am still not sold on the KX3. It just looks cool and that's about it.

As for another suppressor, I have another one coming. Was having dinner and drinks with my FFL on Tuesday and just so mentioned about getting another suppressor for my .308 or .260 build I have coming up. Well I thought it was going to be a fat chance that any dealer around would have a 762SD in stock. My luck, the dealer I bought my Ops Inc suppressor from had one in stock. I really didn't want to order it, but AAC is backed up like hell and the wait for the BATFE is at least 4-5 months so I gave him to go ahead to send it. Saddest part is that I have no parts for this new bolt action build except for a bolt knob and bottom metal. Moral of the story: Don't hang around with class 3 dealers!

But damn, now you have a bolt knob, bottom metal and a suppressor! Thats way better than something lame like an action

Awesome man, someday I'll have the disposable income that you do, someday.

The new bolt action won't be complete for a while, maybe end of the year, early next year. Key is finding good parts for good prices. I have been collecting parts for this SBR for a better part of 8-10 months. I wish I could drop thousands and thousands of dollars in a single shot. Couple of hundred here and there isn't too bad.

edit: not too worried about the action and barrel. Planning on selling my IRA AR10 lower to fund the action and should have money left over for a barrel. High end optics are the biggest pills to swallow.

I really see only one "benefit" with monolithic uppers: A continuous rail that allows you to mount optics, etc. anywhere you like. However, there are railed forends that allow a monolithic appearance and the same optic mounting possibilities. I guess if you need to have the absolute sturdiest mounting platform available, a monolithic upper would be attractive.

Has anyone used MAL 5.56 M193 ammo? It's 55gr fmj. I came across 5k of it from someone who owed me cash. It's still packed in origional boxes from 81-83, sorted by lot numbers. From what I could gather from a local shop it was produced in Singapore and issued to the Malaysian army.

Thinking about selling 1k rounds to a co-worker for $400 and splitting the rest with a friend. Local shops are selling M193 (newer lake city I believe) for $425 per 800 rounds. Thanks for any info.

Nice stick G! I really want a Sopmod stock but too much money for a piece of plastic. I'll just wait for the ACS.

I'm not too big on the SOPMOD. I just had it laying around from a UBR trade I did a long time ago. IMO, the best carbine stock for the ARs is the CTR. It's light, has a small profile and locks up solid. I might swap the CTR off the Colt to the SBR.

Meh, I figure if I'm going to take my time and build one I'll build it right.

Well, 99.999% of AR15s built "right" do not use monolithic uppers. I guess if spending the most amount of money possible on your gun makes it "more right", then knock yourself out! Nothing wrong with mono uppers at all, I just think the benefit/cost ratio isn't high enough. Good luck with the build, though!

I like the SOPMOD, I like the EMOD more. Never felt a CTR but I imagine it being too much like a normal CAR stock and not being able to get a good cheek weld on it. On an SBR I guess it doesnt matter much, but on my 16" I like the comfort of the EMOD.
