How to cut ABS plastic

Alright, I have installed by Profec A where my ashtry goes by cutting a whole in ABS plastic (the stuff that make Stereo DIN's out of) and it took a long ass time. I am going to do it again today better, but I am wondering...How is the best way to cut that stuff? Thanks

Hey Jason... why dont you buy the Din Kit for the controllers? makes it easier and you can leave your dash stock.... looks better IMO

Sharp razor blade works the best. But you can also use an air saw or jig saw.

I usually use a Bridgeport. If you don't have one available, set up guides for a rotozip and you can get very good results too.

In no special order when working with plastics:

1. Dremel
2. Rotozip
3. bandsaw
4. jigsaw
5. hot knife (soldering iron with an x-acto blade at the end)

actually i think it would be a good idea to clarify a few things when cutting abs plastic. if you use a dremel, use the carbon fiber cut off wheel that goes in it. for the rotozip, the cutting bit. using a jig saw isn't a very good idea on abs due to the blade heating up and melting the plastic slightly making it very difficult to cut. also a circular saw or table saw works pretty good for long cuts. if you're cutting round holes use a hole saw.

Dremal is the best tool ever.

I cut out my ashtray so I could fit a old style AVC-R in with the ashtray there.. Looks VERY VERY good.. I'll post pics when I can......
