Does anyone know a place in the Tampa Bay area who works on/rebuilds transmissions R154 to be specific. The Supra I'm getting, its second gear isn't very cooperative and doesn't like to shift into it, so I'm thinking about rebuilding it. Not sure where to go though, any suggestions? Or does anyone have a working R154 for that matter that is looking to sell?
Welcome to buying a supra!! Have you checked the fluid? I personally like to use Redline in my tranny and haven't had a problem. Before you going to rebuild it make sure it has tranny lube in it and then maybe switch to some good stuff.
It might be cheaper just to buy another tranny and alot less of a headache. I have 160k on mine and many passes at the track and i'm making a little bit of power. If you treat them right they don't seem to break easily.

I figured that would be a better idea right now. I just need to see If I can find a place to get them other than online, my pal had put the one in thats in it now, but it was basically a hit or a miss with online shit..and he missed. Second gear doesn't work :/ Still pulls fine in every other gear but whenever i go to put it into second it just grinds. Any suggestions? worn on synchro?
Sounds like a synchro. My 87 would grind a little when you downshift into 2nd. I know of others whos 2nd grinds every time you go into it.
well the syncros are probably going bad but it could be as easy as low fluid or just plain dirty. Change it and see what happens. You can buy a used tranny for 300 to 500 bucks. It'll just take a few days to find one.
If you are stuck on getting it rebuild I do have someone that I would recommend.
good luck, i searched for one for awhile. found one in decent shape. havent used it yet so for all i know it could be busted as well. last i checked magic had one for $500
i know of a dude named ryan who is a master toyota tech. he would rebuild your tranny on the side for you.
That is one of the people I was talking about, not sure how quick he can do it, he always seems to have a lot on his plate. But +1 for Ryan!
