    Post 5M-GE Modifications

It strikes me that it would be beneficial for a modifications list (like on MkIV.com), so let's work one up. I'll start it off and others can reply with additional suggestions.

I'll edit and prune this all down once a week or so and we should have a definitive 5M-GE bolt-on modifications guide.

    Basic performance mods:
    1. Air filter: Either a K&N-style cone filter, a modified airbox, or a ram-air style intake. (links needed)
    - RabidChimp OpenElement air filter

    2. Intake pipe: Dyno numbers from RabidChimp.com have indicated that there is a decent horsepower gain with the use of an intake pipe. This can be built or purchased. (links needed)
    - RabidChimp Mandel-bent Intake

    3. Cat-back exhaust: (writeup and links needed)
    - Brullen (contact information needed)

    Advanced performance mods:
    1. Header: Doug Thorley, Pacesetter. (writeup and links needed)

    2. AFM Mod: (writeup and links needed)

    3. Bored-out throttle body: (writeup and links needed)

    Mods list

ok, I have the turbo and I'll post exactly what i did to make it work as it comes along. I've seen some sites on this (aka http://geocities.com/aarongarney/5mgte.html) but most of them don't have a good step by step guide. So from now on in, I will post my findings in the forums. ICQ availible, post SUPRAS as a subject for authorization. 144749945.

Hi, this is my first time. If it is by anyway sound stupid, please just bare with me.
I just got an 85 supra and I have a problem with it. When I first got it, the car only started and wont take gas. Now that I fixed it, it only slowly accelerate to 2500 rmp then drop. After running for about 10 minutes I saw the exhuast side the camshafthousing (not the exhaust maniford itself) gasket starting to blow bubles and wetness on the side.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

You need new cam housing gaskets. Luckilly fel-pro makes them so any parts store that sells fel-pro gaskets can get them for you. The job takes about 2 hours and requires the removal of both timing gears and the rear timing cover so make sure you have the engine a TDC before beginning as it will be real easy to put things back together afterwards.

I did that already, but not sure if I got the timing set right or not.
I set the crank to 10 TDC, both cams at the marks and the distrubitor with the rotor at #1 spark plug.
    thanks!!

    Trust TR NA exhaust manifold.

I found a header that Trust japan/GReddy sells. Its not listed on any US websites but Im sure GReddy USA can get them. Its a 6 - 2 design with 42mm into 50mm tubing. It costs a pretty penny though....about $500 usd.

    TR NA Exhaust Manifold.

And also a lightweight flywheel from JUN. Again its from JUN Japan, but im sure JUN USA can get it. Its a 12.3 lb aluminum piece. This might be of some value to us because im not sure If any other companies make lightweight flywheels for the 5M.

Hmmm. Never knew Greddy still sold any Mk2 parts, let alone a header. BTW you can get 5M/7MGE flywheels from Fidanza for around $350.

    what about GUDE camshafts?
I know Wes has a write up on the AFM mod, I'll have to go get the link.
I dyno'd at 132rwhp 138rwtq w/ cut air box, FRAM air filter, shaved head, Pacesetter header, 1 3/4" mandrel bent exhaust, no cat, stock Celica muffler.
I have since upgraded the exhaust to 2.25" with a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler and I will post up new dyno results when I get 'em

found one online, up to 11 :1 pistons, and 89mm bore, heres the linky:
Nevermind, can't find it, was looking for a cheap price on a used 7m, and found a site that offered rebuild kits, and I swear it was go2motors, or summin' like that. Put in fav's, and then reloaded winders cauz I had an issue with the p.c., and now can't find it But I found a site somewhere on thewww. that offered a rebuild kit, performance oriented, was like 1300 $ for the kit, but haD everything but a camshaft.

Will find it and update this, pissed now.

So, maybe I should put this in another thread, or start its own, but before i put the 5m in my van, I would like to go through its 225k ass, and was wondering if, or how much more it would be to go with the above rebuild, as opposed to a stock rebuild, and if I was just trying for 250 whp, should I even worry with a turb, and just use a 7m crank for the stroker effect, and their 10 or 11:1 option.

My car is a L 83 a/t, which will be a 5spd when in the 'crawler
