    My N/A - T never ending project....

    Hi!

I thought as many other out there that I wanted to start a tread about my project going on...

Actually I did not imagine that I this project would take this long, but I guess this is what tuning is, right?

Anyway, I did import a 1993 N/A Supra from Tokyo, Japan in 2006. Actually I did order the car in novemer 2005 but didn`t get my baby to Norway until mid summer of 2006.... Then it took about 3 months to get it registered. So in October 2006 I had my car on the road here in Norway.... FINALLY!! I was stunned about the car and everything was a dream come true!!!

Here is a picture of my car in Tokyo. The first picture I saw before I decided to buy it....

    Bought new Rims:

I did get to drive it for a couple of month, before the first snow flakes landed in desember. I parked the car at a friends house for the winter.

That`s when I started dreaming of going turbo, and started to collect some money. I sold my 2005 YZF R1 to get some money to start off with...

Then I started doing some research to find someone that had all the parts I wanted to install in my ride. Alot of people told me to contact Dusty at MVP for further details about how to get thing settled...

I contacted Dusty and told him what I wanted... Actually I told him I wanted around 400-500 Rwhp, and that he had to come up with the parts I needed. He gave me a list of parts to start with:

Boost Logic Stage 2 Turbo Kit: $5,099
    Blitz Blow Off Valve: $192
    Blitz BOV Flange: $32
RPS Max Clutch with Street disc or 6-puck Disc: $409.66
    Fidanza lightweight flywheel: $395
Small replacement parts for clutch: $111.82
Blitz SBC Spec R Electronic boost controller: $439
PHR EGR Block off Plates: $90
Greddy 60mm Boost gauge with Peak Hold and Warning: $192
Innovate Motorsports Air fuel gauge kit: $399.95
MVP Dual A-pillar pod, complete pillar replacement: $85
HKS Type 0 Turbo timer: $85
    Turbo timer harness: $15

I paid about 8000 for this starter shipped to my adress in Norway!

Then the work started early January 2007. I had talked to a relative of mine to install all the parts. I had no idea how to do this at this moment since I`m not familar with the supra.... at this moment... ;-)

I wanted to go with stock bottom, since I have heard that this will hold enough for my project. I don`t have many pictures about the firs install but here`s what I got:

That`s actually the pictures I have from the first build.... first.... more to come.... more to break... buhu....

Well, I have never droven a Turbo car before and I really believe I screw up the hole thing the first test run...

We did miss couple some vacuum hoses, and I did boost 35 psi the FIRST run and MY FIRST try with a turbo car... Clever....

I don`t believe this did mess up my engine, but I believe it helped it on its way...

I got my car to a tuner who did "rough" tune/map it so I could use my car that weekend. i had a appointment to a professional tuning company the week after....

So I started driving my car at a saturday at 12 midday and 3 hour later smoke did come out of the hood etc.... I had VERY fun these 3 hours, but this was the start of alot of money on new parts...

    Hi

I opened the hood and saw that the Valve ventilation (don`t know the exact word for it) filter had melted and it was alot of smoke and oil coming out from there....

I took my car to the same guy that "rough" mapped my car and asked for help. He told me that I might have blown a piston and since I had water in the exhaust my headgasket might as well have been blown apart... He sent me home to take my car apart and come back with the engine, so he could examine it and then overhaul it.

    Here`s some pictures:

Now I had taken out the engine and fastened it to a pallet and was ready to send it to my friend so he couldtake a look at it....

We took the engine apart and found one "melted" piston and a RAPED HEAD GASKET!! The headgasked where blown on all 6 cylinders... somehow...

He told me I must had knocking for this to happen, but I told him I didn`t hear anything at all, but I guess this is the result of knocking.... What we did see when we took the engine apart as well, was that both the knocking sensors where damaged... So yes I guess I had knocking!

I ordered parts from the US:

    WISECO OVERBORED PISTONS
    EAGLE RODS
    Headgasket

+++++ Too many parts to list....

After some weeks he had assembled my engine and I was ready to install it... again...

Don`t have pictures of this eiether, but everything was going fine all the way. The car started up and after a month or two, I GOT IN PROBLEMS AGAIN!!

Back to the tuning dude for help... again..... Now he told me he was suspicious to the headgasket I had given him 2 months earlier... what a jack ass!!! Why didn`t he tell me when I gave it to him... Dumd as I was back then I bought a single layer headgasket for a N/A... not a HKS type multi layer one... DOOOOH!!!

I took my car home and started to take my engine apart.... again... I ordered a 1,2 mm HKS gasket from Dusty and installed it and assembled my engine...again....

After that my engine did work as it was supposed to without any problems at all! I drow it the whole summer before I did winter store it fall 2007.

    Time to buy more parts!!

I wanted more horsepower and more torque.... Since I didn`t map my car before i winter stored it, and my plan was to go bigger I started searching the internet for more parts. Since it cost about 1500-3000 USD to map a car at the local tuner I guessed It would be kind of stupid to map my car before the winter when I did plan to go bigger, since I then need to remap it again in the upcoming spring...

So I started collection new parts for my Supra and here`s a list of some of the parts:

    COWBOY BEBOP CAMS
    KOYORAD RADIATOR
FLEXALITE FAN KIT WITH CHROME SHROUD
    BOOSTWERX INTAKE MANIFOLD
    90 MM ACCUFAB TB
    UPGRADE FROM 2,5" IC PIPING -> 3"
    VRP76DBB
VRP FUEL SYSTEM (DUAL WALBORS - FUEL LININGS - FPR - FUEL RAIL ++)
    850 CC
    50 MM WASTEGATE
    OIL PRESSURE GAUGE
    OIL TEMP GAUGE
    WATER TEMP GAUGE

Here`s some pictures of new parts:

    Update...

I got the TPS sensor from Daveh yesterday, and still waiting for the Downpipe flange and the cams....

I talked to UPS today and they did promise me that I will get them tomorrow...
I hope so, so I can install the cams this weekend and fire her up.

I`m also dealing with a guy in the US. He got a V160 tranny that I really want, so I`m waiting for a shipping quote.

Anyone installed a Mustang TPS on their N/A`s? I got a JDM N/A and got 4 wires on the stock TPS and the mustang comes with 4 wires... I got a wiring scheme from Daveh but it seems that the US N/A is kind of different from the JDM.

    THese are stock colors:

    BLUE with RED STRIPE
    RED
    YELLOW
    BLACK with BROWN STRIPE

    Hi

Well, that`s my goal... I did visit ACR for the first time this fall... It really was awesome.... I never raced on the track before but it`s time to try it.

Just hoping not to wreck my car...

HAHA overall great build, and damm it sounds like you just have fun breaking your car man... crazyy.... Ive gone through some hsit like that, but not this insane.. ha...
That 76 didnt interfere with the distributor at all?... Dude i can easily see 800rwhp from your setup. Now good luck with tunning and your definetly gonna need that V160 if you wanna turn up the boost, you can just say bye to the w58 already....

    Hi

Hehe.... Yes it did go free of the distributor, but worried about the wheel "house"... Only a half gap between the turbo and the chassi... But I`ve tried to look at some youtube dynos and se the engine move the opposite way on pulls so hope it wohn`t be a problem... If not I buy some new engine mounts to see if that helps...

Anyway, I`m dealin a V160 from KazumaTRD at this moment, and got quotes from different shippers, so I guess the V160 will be mine soon :-)

And I couldn't see the pic of the ford color you posted? Here is a supra with the color you are talking about though. Probably the same picture you were talking about. I hate Ford with a passion, but I will admit that color is beautiful.
