    Single Turbo Setup

Something I have always wanted to see as a sticky on here is pics of different single turbo setups for the 1jz, how they ran the intercooler pipes on each one, the spool up rpm of each, power band, and a cost comparison. Now that I have decided to go single, this would really help me make my decision

i don't have any current pics of my set up but i'm using the drewgo manifold with a pt70 (.81 a/r hotside, .75 a/r coldside), hks knock off 50mm wastegate, 4 inch dp and exhuast, an ebay ic (core is 18x12x3) and 2.5 inch ic piping. as of right now the ic piping is ran across the top of the motor but i'm about to upgrade the ic and ic piping and change the way the ic piping is ran. my turbo has a short powerband but it pulls hard during that short time, it fully spools around 52-5300 rpms at 19-20 psi (redline stock). so i have like a 2000 rpms of fully spool time. it probably cost me around 2300 for my turbo setup.

cause he has a big a** turbo...i would guess...maybe a little more tune can help, but with a turbo that size it's a given...which is ok with me

My setup, DBBT61, .58 turbine, P trim, Haltech E11v2 EMS, 720cc injectors, 3.5" exhaust....423 whp at 17 psi. I love this turbo it is the most responsive single that I have driven on a 1j, boost at any rpm once the gas pedal hits the floor, and full boost at about 3700 rpms. For a 500-600 HP turbo I wouldnt use anything else!!!

I logged some driving with the Haltech a few weeks ago, the car was making boost at 600 rpms, driving up my driveway!!!

I recently tuned a 1j with a T67 (.68 a/r) with a Microtech EMS, it was very laggy 5300 ish for full spool, but it did pull very hard, even at 10-15 psi. We have a swap in the shop now that will be running a GT35R on the 1J, I think it will be similar to my T61...we will see.

my turbo spools late because it is a bigger turbo with a larger a/r on the hotside and i'm running 19-20 psi of boost. as of right now i'm on a crappy street tune with a safcII, i plan on getting an ems in the next couple of months before new years so we will see how that goes. if you want to watch a vid of my car check the link below.

this is when i first started doing my single.it's an ebay china mani

precision t61 which needed an elbow welded to the compressor and a spacer under the turbo for clearance

a couple of pic's after it was done

this turbo spooled nice, till i through cam's in it.it was running really rich down low.it was only on the stock ecu with safc and never really tuned
i ended up swapping a 2j into my car and used the same turbo.the 2j didn't like the turbo's little .58a/r hotside.it hit fuel cut everytime you stepped on it(1bar)

a pic with my new gt40 bolted to it.this turbo has a .96 a/r on the exhaust side, time to lag.i'm waiting on a cast alumnum elbow to weld onto the compressor cover.it's pretty tight space, hope it fit's

SP67GT .80a/r, Microtech. Im using an Ebay manifold. The mani had to be bent in about an inch to clear the frame rail, and i had to get solid motor mounts to fit my tial wastegate, as it would not clear the stock motor mounts (well, the ones i had atleast) As for Intercooler pipes, I have a modified version of BIC's 1J 2.5" Pipes for the stock twins, but as i said, slightly modified to accomidate the single. Im bulding boost around 3500-3700, and dont usually go much past 6200.
