Good Effort. I think the 3rd version is my least favorite...but not having seen it in person, who am I to say?

In pictures it looks a bit extravagent but when you see it in person it balances out the rear (doesn't stick out as much as it seems in pictures) with the wing so the car doesn't look too top heavy in the rear looks wise. I have yet to test it still. No time lately...

Hey soup, i was just wondering, do you have any close up pictures of how/where the diffuser mounts? and how each fin mounts to the base of the diffuser? I just picked up a genuine SARD CF wing, and wanted to complete it off with a custom/home made diffuser (I sold off my shine auto cf diffuser scared that i would most likely crack or smash it up on the local roads - however your home made aluminium diffuser seems like a viable alternate option)

    cheers in advance ed.

Saying get it in a wind tunnel and test it is NOT as easy as it seems and is extremely expensive. Were talking about 6k for 1/2 a day and you would need a few days to get it right.

Here's an article from our resident aerodynamics engineer over on the UK forums on this sort of thing.
That aerodynamics engineer should read up on how airplane wings work. They function primarily due to angle of attack...the resulting pressure differences are not only impossible to calculate but come in a far, far second when accounting for lift forces.

^^^ sorry. I have to redesign the diffuser once again. I will have to start from scratch this time since I just changed my exhaust. This exhaust is special though, only reason why i had to redesign the diffuser so I wouldn't risk scratching my exhaust. But sadly to say the supra is on the back burner right now since I am having fun putting parts on my daily since parts are so cheap for it lol.

So what your telling me is an aero engineer who design's F1 cars for a living doesn't know what he's talking about, I find that incredibly hard to believe.

I was going to post someting similar, but thought it would be meaningless to do so

For what it's worth, when my wing was being dialed in and splitter development discussion started I inquired about adding canards/dive planes and a diffuser. Aero motions recommendation was that unless there was going to be time spent in a wind tunnel, it would not be worth the time and effort to do. I was willing to spend quite a bit, but the cost of what the wind tunnel testing would add was out of reach for me. During that discussion it was noted how often those types of aero mods often decrease and not improve performance without testing...but they do look cool.

I wasn't going to rise to it originally but he is a highly respected person on the UK forums and being told he needs to read up on things is a bit of an insult and uncalled for.

Anyway on another note here is a pretty damn good go at making a true diffuser complete with flat floor by ryan on the UK forums with design input from said engineer.

Sadly this car will be going up for sale very soon.

^^ What a good effort with the undertray.

Thats the first A80 Ive seen with a complete floor, do you know if the owner has any wind tunnel data or if it was done with CFD?

What sort of racing is that car typically used for?

    Thanks

if you are asking me (Red Supra) then the rear quarter panels are custom metal widebody using the stock rear panels.

There's no wind tunnel data as far as im aware but I think it was quickly computer simulated by the engineer who helped design it.

The car was a fully dedicated track car custom built and its actually for sale now sadly but its a very unique car

The back of the diffuser is bolted underneath the center of the rear bumper where from the factory there is plastic clips holding the underside of the bumper cover on. I got my hardward from the generic hardware store which were 3 4" bolts with nuts to attach to the diffuser. The front of the diffuser was mounted to my rear frame where the differential is.

They look great from that angle. At first I was going to guess maybe you were running the Ridux Rear quarter Flares. Any other pics you can share?

Lovin the #3 effort. Matter of fact, your entire car looks well thought out function & design-wise.

I like the first 2 as far as looks go. If the last one works the best for track times I would only put it on then.

Nice Fab work for doing it yourself. I can barely make paper airplanes with a step by step how to manual lol.
