No not lumping gangsters with normal folk at all, I don't know where you got that from. The numbers speak for themselves, more guns, more gun crime
Might want to look at a few more websites before you jump to conclusions.

Hey, if it wasn't for citizen-owned firearms, the US would still be an English colony.

Gun-related crime rates high in the US? Sure---they are high in highly-populated urban areas with ghettos and gangs. However, gun-related crimes committed by law-abiding US citizens who lawfully own firearms are almost ZERO. Yes, there are a LOT of guns in this country. However, the ones used in crimes are almost always guns that were both stolen from gun stores and smuggled into the country illegally. This is a BIG country. 300 million and growing. Everyone apparently wants to live here, as both legal and illegal immigrants flood the US every year. With the increased population comes increased crime. The crime starts to spread outside of urban areas and into more rural communities. I will be damned if I am going to call the police and wait 10-15 minutes for help if my life is at risk. I am armed and I will protect myself, and I pity those people who are unarmed and cannot.

Everyone across the pond also seems to forget the obvious: If you take away guns, only criminals will own them. I guess if I ever decide to become a serial rapist or murderer, I will simply move to the UK and have my way with whomever I wish---because I know you poor saps are unarmed and can't defend yourselves. Nice and easy prey!

I'll explain it the same way I did to my wife. Who understands my hobby, but didn't understand the need to carry.

You have a Leatherman or pocket knife, correct? Its a tool, how handy is it? Super fucking handy.
Now, isn't it frusterating when you forget it at home or just plain don't have it? Especially when you really need it.
Imagine the 1 in a million chance that you NEED your firearm. You'd be pretty damn upset if you didn't have it. More than a million times more upset than that time when you forgot your Leatherman.

Unfortunatly I live in a country where any carry of a pistol is prohibited by law. Thus, I do not carry, as I am a law abiding citizen.
However, I am legally allowed to have my shotgun or rifle in my vehicle at all times. This is the closest to being safe as I am allowed to be. And it has to do for now.

When I finally get my CCW license I will carry my P99. Right now I just keep it in my car or carry it on me in shitty parts of town late at night. Our laws are pretty lax though.

9mm xd subcompact when not at work. I wish they would allow teachers to at least have it locked up in the glove compartment of the car while in the parking lot.

Not a lot of love for the Kel-Tec PF-9 around here. Is there any specific reason for this because most of the reviews I've seen have been very positive. I was looking at one for when I get my ccw because I'm a skinny guy and I like the weight and thinness. Should I be considering other options?

For me, I'm not a fan of extremely slim guns and if I have a 9mm I'd rather have a greater capacity than 7+1. I have decent sized hands and smaller/thinner guns I just can't get comfortable with. That's just me. Smallest I've felt comfortable with so far is the SR9c with the pinky rest. I shoot it pretty well and it conceals very well.
