If you want to get your shotgun taken away by the game warden

Mag extensions are great for home defense or competition, but it serves no real purpose in the world of hunting or clay sports

i dont hunt with mine. mine is a tactical setup. im kind of suprised they would take it (assuming in your state). i would think you would benefit having a couple extra rounds in a hunting or clay shooting situation, but thats me. i could see if you were carrying a drum on a shotgun a game warden confiscating it.

The purpose of this thread was that he was trying to find a hunting/clay shotgun. Regulations state you can only carry 3 shells in a gun (1 in the chamber, 2 in the magazine tube) while hunting migratory birds. And that is a federal regulation, so it doesn't matter what state you are in. Anything more is considered unfair advantage; if I could have a 8 shell magazine extension in my hunting gun I would and doves would rain from the sky, but it isn't considered the sporting way. If I miss a bird with three shells he deserves to escape and live another day, it's all part of the game/hunt/sport. Same thing with ranges...most only let you load 2 shells because those not only the rules set out by the NSSA, but also a safety regulation. I'd be easy to hit a perfect score if I got 10 shots at every single clay.

interesting info. since i dont hunt with mine i was not aware of the fed regulation on 3 rounds. i do see your point on the after 3 shots and no hits the animal deserves another day and the safety side of it. anyways thanks again for the info and clearing this up.

No it is a Tromix Much better work than Red Jacket could ever do. The recoil isnt bad with that big brake on it. But 8" barrel is fun as shit.

I cringe everytime I see someone compare quality work like Tromix to any hacked up junk Red Jacket makes.

870 with choke for the duke hunting you wont find a better hunting shotgun for the price
The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

so the general consensus is 870, whatever variation or the benelli nova/supernova?

I'm looking to pick something up soon myself.

any reason to go benelli over the 870, or vice versa?

More customization options for the 870 or Mossberg 500/590 over the Benelli.

My father just picked up a 500 tactical for around $500 OTD. We will probably shoot trap with it occasionally (intended use is for HD), but I don't expect too much luck with an 18" barrel. It shoots like a dream when we were using it at the range, buckshot didn't seem to spread as much as I thought at 25', there was around a 4" hole in the paper where the silhouette's neck was. At 15' there was a 3" hole where the X was.
