I only need the standard crisp single-stage. IMHO, fancy triggers in ARs are overrated.

Don't overthink your first AR build. Keep it inexpensive and simple. Spend your money on a quality barrel, a quality bolt carrier group, and a quality optic. The rest of the gun can be low-budget. Even the cheapest build will shoot better than the shooter operating it. I once built a cheap-ass M4gery using take-off parts from all my other guns. The most expensive thing in the gun was the original RRA non-chrome-lined 1/9 twist barrel. The rest of the gun was made up of...well...cheap crap parts. The first time I took it to the range, I out-shot my cousin who was using his brand new fancy super-ninja-tactical AR built with a Noveske barrel and a Vltor monolithic upper. I still give him shit about that. Point is, just build an affordable quality gun, and spend more money on ammo and practice.
For someone like myself that is right handed, but left eye dominant, should I make the attempt to re-train my right eye to shoot a rifle? I've always shot rifles left handed, even my BB gun rifles when I was little. When I used to paintball, I used my left hand as well. But when I shoot handguns, I use my right hand.

The world needs another Asian with an AR.

I shoot, play golf, bat, etc right handed, but I eat, write and fap with my left. I'm also left eye dominant.

I tend to shoot with both eyes open

    LOLz.

While shooting handguns, both of my eyes are open. However, after being so into photography for so many years, it's become second nature to close my right eye when looking through any scope/glass/viewfinder.

I am left-eye dominant and VERY right-handed. I simply adapted my pistol shooting stance to my eye dominance. I shoot with both eyes open, but use a "fighting stance", which allows me to better line up the sights closer to my left eye. One of the competition shooters on Team Sig Sauer also shoots this way. Here is an I-4 Tactical video that shows the form...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZ3NUNN7gP0

I shoot all my rifles right-handed as well. 90% of my long guns are close-quarters battle rifles, and most are equipped with some type of optic that allows me to shoot with both eyes open. With my magnified optic rifles, I close my left eye when using the scope anyway, so my eye dominance doesn't matter.

So should I be looking at left hand specific ARs?

I've shot southpaw with right-handed AR's, M16's and M4's so much, that when I finally tried a lefty-specific AR it just freaked me out and I had to think about how to operate everything.

Any modern upper is going to have a brass deflector that should prevent any issues with brass hitting you in the face or shoulder when shooting southpaw. Just adapt around the rest from there. On mag changes for instance, instead of using my trigger finger like a righty would on an AR, I use my off-hand (right hand) thumb on the mag release and wrap my fingers around the mag as it's released. For the bolt release, I just rotate the rifle along the buttstock/bore axis to about 10:30/11 o'clock and hit it with my right hand, similar to how many modern guys teach a righty to operate an AK's bolt with their off-hand (left hand).

By adapting to the normal right-handed controls, I can pick up any AR or duty issue M16/M4 and I'm right at home. Since I'm left eyed and right handed, and I learned as a young boy to shoot right handed, adapting to a 'righty' rifle as a southpaw makes it much easier for me to switch back to shooting right-handed if needed, too.

So for whatever my southpaw opinion is worth, just get a cheap righty AR and practice practice practice.

AR pistol upper from JSE Surplus is in. I'm somewhat disappointed as I expected the YHM rail to mate up to the receiver a little better

Excuse the pic, apparently my mom is as bad as my brother at taking gun pics

I'll post pics of the 20" upper when it gets in.

Oh, shut up... they didn't have anything better in the options

I'll probably replace it when I get back with a longer rail that mates better and covers about half of the flashhider.

YHM makes good stuff for an affordable price. The YHM LW rail isn't designed to mate with the upper receiver.

I wish I had looked a little closer before I changed my order... looks like the Diamond (what I had originally requested) mates with the receiver rail, but they were out of stock so I went with the Lightweight thinking they were the same with bigger cooling holes.

Ah well. I'll work on it when I get home.

Actually, now that I see a better pic of it, it's not THAT bad.

I can't wait to shoot mine, I've never tried the KX3.

Just ordered a Trijicon ACOG TA31F (finally figured out that I can use the mobile version of Arfcom to get around the Saudi internet blockage ). Red chevron. Found a decent deal so I went ahead and bit the bullet... stung a little, but should be good to go for the 20" AR. The upper just came in and I'm waiting for my mom to send pics of it.

I also pre-ordered the Burris Fastfire III... has some features over the II that I like, so I'm glad I waited. Should be in later this month.

Now to decide if I need the EoTech XPS2 or XPS3... it shouldn't be an issue since I don't have nightvision goggles, but you never know. I might buy some one day

Am I the only one buying crap? I didn't mean your purchases for ONLY the week before the thread...

Ordered a 10-pack of DSG Arms GI mags. I had very few GI mags (mostly Pmags). They were running a special of $85 for a case, dunno if it's still going on.

Decided to go with BCM for my next upper. I'd like at least one high-quality AR (I like my PSA, but long-term reliability has yet to be seen) so I'll spend a little extra to get this one as perfect (for me) as I can. Will post pics when I order it. Still haven't decided on the lower yet though...
