What engine could I have in this 86?

Hey everyone. I got my first Supra a few days ago and I am still trying to learn about them. I have found out that they changed a bunch of shit mid year on 86 which is leaving me stumped as to what engine is even inside this vehicle. From what I read up on in some places, many have said the body style that looks like the one I have would be an mk2, but reading up on other information the engine may be the 7mge from a mk3? The car only had one owner and he never mentioned ever replacing the engine, and I would really like to find out what engine is in this. I see on some places on the 7mge the distributor is on the driver side, while 5mge is on passenger side. Also the 7mge has 24 valves while 5mge has 12 valves. Assuming the 7mge has dohc while 5mge has sohc? The engine has the distributor on the driver side, and says dohc on the timing cover, but other than that I don't see any labels or information on this engine. Is there anyone at all who can help me to find out what I even have?

congrats on buying a supra, the mk3 came out in november of 86 and came with 7mge and 7mgte. im thinking u own a mk2. in that case i think it would have a 5mge. look on the front of the timeing belt cover then u will know if u have a 7m or not. but take a few pics and put them on here

    That's a MKII Supra, with a 5MGE.

Google 'MKII Toyota Supra' and 'MKIII Toyota Supra' and you'll see the differences

Aww poo. It looks like its harder to find aftermarket stuff for a mk2. But at how much trouble I am now having out of this car, I am not sure how long it will last. After it over heating on the way home it now has a miss while being under 2000 rpm, found coolant leaking from a hose I replaced and now it appears to maybe be leaking out of the water pump also, and also now blue smoke and spark plugs indicating that its burning oil. While nothing was leaking and no smoke was going on the day I purchased it. FUUUUUUUU lol

    What about 6M's?

    I own a MK2, but it doesn't have a 5M, 6M, 7M, 2J, or UZ motor, so I don't know.

You got me. I never knew much about the supras except they were rear wheel drive, can be modified to be made quick fairly easily, and fun little cars. Before I got this I thought it had a 4 cyl until I looked at it and noticed a straight 6. Now that I know its an mk2 it seems hard to find these modified parts for it lol and I am putting a decent amount of work into it just to get it driveable.

Its a very old car, you gotta fix all the parts that age has not been friendly to. I was looking at one yesterday and it was an 85.5. It had the DOHC on the valve cover and the distributor on the driver side. But from what I have read so far, the 85 and 86 came with the same motor, the 5MGE.
