    Bad coilpack(s)?

93 6spd tt, only thing done engine wise is a catback and intake. I noticed over the last week or so when I go WOT it wont build boost over 0.5bar and stutters/hesitates. The idle also gets a little bit lumpy (when you tap the throttle you can feel the lumpy-ness).

It seems that I can take the car out, let it warm up, do a pull or two (running fine), then it will start doing the above.

I checked the coilpack connectors, they are all fine and making contact well. I'm thinking it might be an actual coilpack.

    Any thoughts?

What is the condition of your spark plugs? Also check coil pack boots.

I pulled the front cyl plug and it looked good. I'm going to replace all the plugs tomorrow.

It's fine at at any rpm, it's only when I (try to) boost above .5bar (7psi or so?).

Edit: Now that I think about it more it's mostly above 4.5k rpm. When the second turbo comes online.

You need to check your VSV switch located near the 2nd turbo to see if it has either failed, has a crack in it, or if the vacuum line has come off. It sounds like me like the 2nd turbo is not coming online and that is causing a super rich mixture that your plugs can't ignite. It happened to me back in the day.

First and second turbo spool fine. Like I said above I can do a couple pulls and all will be good, but then after that it starts to do it. I'll check it out though. Thanks

Went and took a look, the lines are good, the vsv its self appears to be good.

Is there suppose to be a line hooked up to the nipple on the left hand side of the vsv?

Edit: what I took a picture of appears to be the IACV vsv?

Should I check the EGVC vsv like shown here?

Whats you plug gap set at @

Also , check for hairline cracks in your coilpack boots. if you see some, use the soldering iron to melt it shut and use heat shrink afterwards to seal them up.

Did you pull the blue boots off the Coil Packs and look for hairline cracks? I just pulled mine today and 5 out of 6 have cracks. maybe this is happening to you?

I'm going to pull the packs tomorrow and check them out. Might as well do plugs too while i'm there.

Got rid of the black coilpack connectors, plugged them straight into the coil packs, no more issue. Going to have to order some new plugs. All the coilpacks also looked new(ish) with no cracks.
