Three best road going cars in the world
If Im not mistakes these cars started out being race cars and to comply with the FIA rules of having 25 road going examples the following were produced. As I said if im not mistaken, I very well might be
First the McLaren F1 which IMO is the best car ever made. One of the most sought after cars ever made if not they most IMO. All variants in the car are in this picture, long tail GTR and regular road car ![]() Top gear Dailymotion - Mclaren F1 627hp Worlds fastest street legal car - Top Gear - a Auto-Moto video Second CLK-GTR, one of my favorite not many people know about it Race car ![]() Street Car ![]() Roadster one of only 5 ever produced ![]() The top gear for the cars boring they drive it in the rain/snow so heres a better video http://videos.streetfire.net/video/j...CLK_101426.htm Thirdly and a VERY rare car the Porsche 993 GT1. The switched the lights in the 98 season to a 996 configuartion. 993 race car ![]() 996 street car ![]() Top Gear episode of the race car YouTube - Porsche 911 GT1 Review |

The McLaren F1 was, first and foremost, a road car. The GTR came afterwards.
I like where this thread is headed.

I belive the McLaren first came out in 95 for a street version. Followed in 1996 by the first delivery of a 993 variant of the GT1 street cars and in 1998 the CLK GTR was produced.

Definitely in my top 10. These were cars built to dominate racing and the ONLY reason why they made street versions was to conform to race regulations (build a min. of 25 to call it a "production car"). The $$$ involved in making a move like that. I do not think that we will see the OEM's pulling a stunt like that for a loooooooong time with the global financial crunch. Man what a good time in motorsports
![]() And yes, three of the best cars EVER built. But with the CLK GTR you left out the crown jewel. The CLK GTR SS. They only made one and it was the only red CLK GTR built. More HP and less weight on the SS. ![]() You can see the Super Sport badge on the front fender in front of the door. Crappy pic but it is there ![]()

Yeah...the GT-One is awesome.
The long-tail McLaren F1 is the only one I'd want to own (other than the full-bred racing version). The CLK-GTR and the Porsche GT1 are two road cars that can never get enough coverage (and never do). It's a shame really, that there are so many flat-out amazing cars that are never laid (track tests, mag tests, etc) out for us to drool over. |

A long time ago, I talked to this guy who was trying to sell his dads CLK-GTR at HIN. He had a huge crowd around it and had a for sale sign on it for something around 1.1-.3M. Cool car but, not a big fan of the looks....
The McLaren, however, is something else. I still have never seen one in real life.. McLaren F1....Lamborghini Diablo......timeless cars |

Pagani Zonda....ranks high on my list but i will say theres something about the F355 F1 and the Lamborghini Diablo that have always kept them on my top ten but i will have to agree the McLaren F1 is definitely a top 3 as for the Porsche and Benz race cars not my cup of tea. I thought it was "road cars" as in cars you could drive daily not sunday cars?

I'd take a Caparo T1 over a McLaren, I'm sure no one here knows how either is with respect to the other, but the Caparo just looks and seems to accelerate too insane for me to want anything else

I like the Toyota GT1 that defiantly deserves and honorable mention but it never did what the three other cars did. How many street examples are there?
I also think this car deserves to be noted as an excellent road going car that also came out of Japan. Not many people know about it. ![]() Quote:

Sorry but no way^ I was in love with the S7 myself, but then my dad and i went into test drive one and the dealer said we couldn't drive it because they had engine issues.(it had 150miles on the OD). Then we came back the following week to test drive a S7 TT , Got in started it up and the coolant system exploded coolant all over the dealer showroom floor. I have heard similar stories from others as well. we never looked at another one again.
