I'm glad our mis-understanding has finally been cleared up...
What specs were you looking for regarding the ballasts? They are Hella ballasts. Let me know exactly what you're looking for so I can post it up...

Supdawg post the spec's of the ballast (if you have them). I'll see if I can find the info on mine. If they are similar then you should be fine without a realy.

Here is an H.I.D. projector mounted on the Supra headlamp assembly:

Looks good but you need to rotate that projector cc so that it is level with the ground or you'll be blinding the hell of out oncomming traffic.

Unless you're running some 55W ballast they are going to be less intence; and even if you are running a 55W ballast the road must be very blue as opposed to white.

yes i do have two ballast wit my kit.

Every HID system has ballasts...one per bulb. What I am saying is that unless you have 55W aftermarket ballasts as opposed to the standard 35W ballasts used in every normal HID system. Believe me there has been a lot of research done by many people on this subject and there is NO kit out there that will perform on par with top of the line OEM projectors. Some kits may be pretty good, but they will not equal or surpass the OEM projectors.

Look at the cut off. Make sure it's parallel to the ground. Here's an example of my cutoff. You can see it's parallel to the ground. But yes you have to rotate the projector.

Gotcha...It seems a little hard now that the bolts are there. Do you think I'm going to have to re-drill the hole to lower the left side in order to make it parallel? Also, how was your wiring done? I am following this diagram:

You need to use a different diagram which is for the 9006 bulbs. They are pretty similar but the other is simpler. http://faqlight.carpassion.info/hid-...t-bi-xenon.gif this is the link to it. As far as aiming it correctly, drill the holes in the projector so you can rotate it. If you do not do that you will have a very funky looking HID setup which will be very bad for you and the people comming towards you. Having them straight is a MUST.

Also make sure to lower it as it's aiming waaaay high, but I am sure you're aware of that at the moment.

Hey Chris,
Sorry bro, didn't mean to offend you. I meant it in a way where if someone winds up dis-satisfied, it's all on them. I am following your instructions on my project by the way. It was a great write up indeed!

I have an shit ton of supra headlight guts so "if" a HID type projector happens to come into my posession, I'd really like to try my new idea. When I was doing my last one with 99yellowstang, I was holding the new projector up to the stock assembly and I'm confident that with a little bit of dremmeling I could cut out the old one, drill some mounting holes, and mount the new one in(with screws), that way the stock adjustment screws could be used.

Only thing is I would have to be careful to preserve the clear R-L aiming cylinder and screwing the two screws back into that green thing could be a sonnuvabitch, and how the projector be oriented in relation to the backing, i.e. too far in or out, but I'm sure that could be accounted for.

No offense taken at all; I don't know how I would come off that way. Anyway thanks for the compliment on the writeup

I've been playing around with just re-using the stock projector assembly. This is how it would look:

The H.I.D. lense seems to fit in very well:

Now I am figuring out what to do behind with the cutoff shields:

More shots of the stock assembly modified:

The distance of the lense away from the bulb is important too; people modify the amount of color at the cutoff (location of the focal point relative to the reflector part) by placing washers between the bulb and its mounting hole. What I was proposing was cutting that entire metal cylinder out and mounting the entire assembly in.

Modifying Stock Proj Housings.

I have 3 questions for you HID guys..

I have a 6000k HID P&P kit, and im very interested in this idea of retrofitting because of clarity and quality. The cut-offs are really nice. I was wondering if anyone here has modified the stock projectors so that the cut-off was ideal for a P&P kit.

Where did you get your X5 HID assemblys from, and for how much?

In my kit, my ballast blew out and i needed to get another one. I went to their website and it was $140. Is it possible to mix and match ballasts in a HID kit if the wattage is the same?

TIA

It would be pretty hard to do it but it is possible to try since the shield is movable.

eBay. Make sure you're getting HID projectors and not the standard ones.

Yes but you need to make sure that the wiring will be the same.

I tried looking for the brand but i couldn't find the box.. The ballast looks like this.

It is a standard 35W ballast. The projectors i'll check on ebay for. This whole project got me motivated into doing this myself!

Also here's another reason why kits will never equal OEM. Look at how freaking WIIIIIIIIDE that beam is.
