Schedule:

Friday, October 28 (Hotel check-in, DYNO and SHOW-N-SHINE at AAP):
-Friday will consist of checking-in to the hotel and getting your 'Welcome Pack' that contains raffle tickets, maps, an itinerary, and a few other items from the event sponsors. Then, drive just a few miles down the road to Anderson Audio & Performance for the 'Show-N-Shine' and 'Dyno' events. The 'Show-N-Shine' event is FREE, and the 'Dyno' event is only $29 for 3 power pulls, so we encourage EVERYONE who drives a Supra to the event to participate even if you aren't concerned with winning because you will be entered in a raffle for a parts/cash prize! Events will start around 2:00pm while people start arriving, and will continue until about 9:00pm. People will 'Dyno' and be judged for the 'Show-N-Shine' after they arrive and check in at the 'Supra Shootout booth' set up outside AAP. We'll then caravan back to the hotel for a group dinner at Carrabba's next door to the hotel (walking distance) around 10:00 PM.

Saturday, October 29 (1/4 mile drag strip):
-Saturday morning at 9:00am we will be caravaning west just over the state line to the Wingate Inn in Oxford to check-in and drop off your luggage, then IMMEDIATELY drive up to (www.AlabamaInternationalDragway.com). When we hit the Alabama state line, we loose an hour (time zone change, reset your watch!), so we should arrive at the hotel around 9:30am-10am (Central time), and will caravan up to the dragstrip at 10:15am-10:30am central. We should arrive at the dragstrip around 11-11:15am central. When you check-in at the dragstrip, you will be directed to check-in at the 'Supra Shootout booth' where you will be given a number on your windshield, and when your group/round is ready to race we'll announce your number over the intercom. We will organize everyone at this time, and test-n-tune racing starts at NOON. After a brief cool-down and test passes, racing will start at 1:00pm central sharp, DO NOT BE LATE if you want to race! You can race between rounds as much as you like! It is only $15 to race OR watch, so everyone is encouraged to get out on the track an have fun while you are there instead of just watching (like last year!) This year's event will be very organized compared to last year. Also, this track is MUCH more lax on their rules because they are not a NHRA sanctioned track, so there is no tech inspection (other than basic things like no cords showing on tires, ect)! This is good news for some of you with high end street cars. After this event is over, we'll hand out awards at the track, and the event will be over around 6:00pm or so. We will then all caravan back to the Wingate Inn, and everyone who is running the road course on Sunday can pre-register at the hotel until 8pm so you don't have to waste time doing it Sunday morning at the track. We'll then go have dinner around 8pm at a nearby restaraunt/lounge.

Sunday, October 30 (Road Racing):
-We will check out of the hotel around 7:00am in the morning and caravan to Talladega Grand Prix Raceway (www.tgprace.com) for a day of road racing for only $125 per person! There are NO walls around the track so this is great for beginners. We'll have 4 groups or so depending on the number of entrants, which will be divided according to driver skill. For an extra $15 the day of the event, Barry Hair (SCCA regional executive officer) will act as instructor for those of you who have never road raced, and will ride along with you for a session to teach you the basics of performance driving, track etiquette, etc. I doubt you'll find road racing anywhere this cheap. Road Atlanta is several hundred dollars per day. We will NOT have a timed event this year due to insurance prices, but we WILL next year!
--------

Shootout classes/prizes:
-This year we are once again focusing on '93-98 Supras, as we don't want to spread ourselves too thin. In coming years, we'll have both better awards AND more classes for MK1-MK3's. Sorry to do this, but I've learned that there is much better success specializing in a niche.
-Just like last year, there is a 'points' system where participants earn a certain amount of points depending on what position they place compared to other Supras in their class in any given event (drag/dyno/show-n-shine.)
Every Supra that runs at the drag strip, dynos, or competes in the show-n-shine will automatically be entered in the Shootout/points race for free.

Classes for participants:
-MK1-MK3 collective class (ALL '79-'92 Supras)
-Non-turbo
-Stock twin turbos (no nitrous)
-Power-Adder (1 of the following: Upgraded turbo(s), nitrous, aftermarket transmission [TH400, etc])
-Unlimited (2 or more of the following: Upgraded turbo(s), nitrous, aftermarket transmission [TH400, etc)...MUST retain factory type independant rear suspension, no solid axle cars. *Also, please note the AAP drag Supra will race 'exhibition' to keep this class competitive, and will not be in this class UNLESS there is another obvious low-mid 8 second car there.

Awards/prizes: (Subject to change)
-3 random people staying at the hotel AND 3 random people participating in ALL FOUR '93-98 events get their choice of several MKIV or universal parts from Speed For Sale LLC OR a cash prize (specific details coming soon...)
-The winner of each event in each class gets an engraved trophy that are much larger/nicer than last year's trophies (courtesy of Anderson-Audio.com)
-The top points winner in each class wins a gift certificate from Jeff Watson at Champion Toyota/www.TRDperformance.com, along with an 'Best in class' engraved trophy (courtesy of AAP.) Unlimited class does not have a prize this year other than bragging rights and any side bets that are placed. Next year we hope to have a nice prize for the winner of the Unlimited class.

-------

Major notes:
-www.SupraShootout.com is the main website for this event. Here, you will find more information including who's coming/participating, pictures, and other things that we couldn't fit here. Be sure to go there and SIGN-UP if you are coming to this event and bringing your Supra, even if you don't enter an event. This allows us to keep track of who is participating in what event(s), lets you find others in your area who are attending so you can caravan together driving here, etc.
-HI FIVE Productions will be recording with 3 cameras at these events to compile a DVD for us (if we get enough pre-orders, info coming soon.)
-Big thanks to Phil Panas and Barry Hair for helping organize the road racing event and instructors!

In Closing:
If anyone has any suggestions, please post them up or contact me via AOL instant messenger (JeremyJBlackwell), eMail (Blackwell@SpeedForSale.com), or phone (770-777-4774.) Register here: www.SupraShootout.com/register.php
I look forward to meeting everyone and seeing some new Supras!

I'm trying my best to get my car ironed out for this. I hope to do the drag portion, and possibly the dyno.

Mine wouldn't be fast, or fun on a road course :/
But, I'm still planning on the drag portion - the car should run this weekend!

The only one I know who'd be down for the Sunday trackday (and would actually compete with you guys) would be the owner of one inconspicuous Volvo wagon. My car would be a disgrace in the turns

As long as it can pass the basic tech inspection, bring it on! Doesn't matter what kind of car it is...

it doesnt matter if its competitive or not, come on guys, this is a supra event, lets not let this be another 2 supras vs a bunch of vettes and bmws track day at a SUPRA event.who cares about competition, this is fun, this is 100 bucks to really test your car, get a feel for exactly how it reacts, thats what these cars were designed for, the have long powerbands, independent rear suspension, 6 gears, quick revs, big brakes... its a road course car, use it. and dont give me big single crap, or auto crap, larry was running 1.39's at road atlanta, which is damn quick through a t66 and an auto trans with a high stall, and the jun supra turns 1.01 at tsukuba with a t88h .... just hang out and have fun, nobody is gonna laugh at you. we just want supras on the course.

unless you 4th gen guys are scared of getting it handed to you by a little 3rd gen?

Totally agree. (except the part about mkiv's being scared!!)

This is a very (VERY) cheap way of checking out what the car can do, but more importantly what YOU can do. A good driver can get a slow car around the track faster than a poor driver can get a fast car around the track.
And the way to be a good driver is to PRACTICE!!
And it is a blast!
And this track looks to be very forgiving (no hard walls like Road Atlanta).

Is Sam's Death Wagon Volvo running? He is going to be an instructor for me at our region's PDE at TGPR on Sunday but he said he does not have a ride. (He hinted he wants to drive my car but that would be scary ) I took Sam in my Supra one time at TGPR. He told me that he could drive my car better than I could. I didn't let him drive but after a few laps, he joked, "ok you can drive this car better than me but I can make a shitty car go real fast". LOL. I have seen the death wagon bouncing off the rev limiter in a pouring rain at TGPR doing a tandem drift competition with a rental crown vic. It was very entertaining and they were hanging it wwwwaaaayy out. Folks should not be "scared" that they might not be the "fastest". Hell it is just for fun and you will never get faster if you don't turn a wheel in the first place. It is all about seat time. Why have a high performance car if the "central processing unit" (the driver is not capable of the car's limits? I will be available for instruction for people that want help (with a new track I always seek out someone who knows the place). I have a few thousand miles there.

As soon as my event is over Sunday I am going to hit the web on this event. I am sure I can get some takers on this. The price is GREAT and the grin on your face afte the first session will be huge.

What better way to find out what your car and you are capable of or in need of improvement than taking it to a closed road course in a controlled enviroment where you have run off if you over do it. TGPR is the perfect place for that. Besides it is NOT wheel to wheel racing at the event. There is no fender banging and none will be tolerated. It is a track event that has passing.

Hanging on by a thread (so he says), but that's never stopped him before. HE keeps destroying trannies; wonder how!?!

Both Sam and Kenny will be at the drags Saturday tweaking the Megasquirt on the celica-supra. Maybe we'll make Talledega if funds permit

I may show up and drag my Honda. My first time but I am not going to trash my new clutch/pp/flywheel set up with some kind of insane launch. I will roll it out of the hole as quickly as I can. I have never done a drag race before but would like to see what the car can do for shits and giggles. Hoping for 12s. It is a 1/4 mile strip right? Just tracked my car today after a full suspension rebuild and all the pieces stayed on and the car handled well after I played with suspension settings. You guys can always rent a Crown Vic with full damage coverage. Sam knows all about that.

Yeah I talked to Kenny Howard about you. He made mention of the Crown Vic and that you had a Honda.

If you guys definitely can't fill the spots with Supras, I can post up on Aspeed; there's a few of those guys I'm sure will want to drive up for the day.

no roll cage.
basically you need a helmet and your car needs to be safe.
Check out some other sites for typical tech inspection info:

The rules for the road racing event will be up the first week in October. BIG thanks to Barry Hair for providing the rules for this event, which I am currently editing a bit and am 95% done with.

Also, no you do not have to have a rollbar unless you have a convertible that doesn't have a 'factory rollbar' made into it. Make sure your brake, clutch, and power steering fluids are fairly fresh, and you have good brakes and tires. Maybe Barry will chime in here with a few of the main things to look out for that I didn't mention. BRING YOUR OWN HELMET TOO!! The track doesn't rent them out!
