The truth about JDM catback exhaust systems...
APEXi N1:
75MM Piping Front 85MM Piping Rear Full Size Resonator 85MM Inlet Muffler, but less then 3" at exit HKS Hiper: 75MM Piping Front 85MM Piping Rear Full Size Resonator 85MM Inlet Muffler, but less then 3" baffle at the exit HKS Super Drager: 75MM Piping Front Small 75MM Front Resonator 85MM Piping Rear Full Size 2nd Resonator 85MM Inlet Muffler, but less then 3" baffle at the exit Tanabe Medallion: Stainless Steel 2 piece 75MM piping all Full Size Resonator Full Size 3" muffler, but less then 3" baffle at the exit RSR GT2: Steel, 2 piece 75MM Piping Full 3" race bullet muffler Blitz NUR SPEC R: Stainless Steel, 2 piece 75MM piping front pipe Small race resonator 85MM piping rear 85MM inlet muffler to 3" outlet straight through If you have any of these systems, look in the back and see if the exit hole deep inside the muffler is actually 3" or more. Out of all of the above systems, none of them were 3". I will soon have pictures to show. These exhaust systems are baffled to conform to the JDM exhaust noise law. If you want the real power out of them, cut out that baffle!! I suggest everyone that doesn't mind a louder exhaust to get to cutting inside. Here is a picture of a Megan Racing muffler (unmodified). Look ma! A 2.5" pipe will fit THROUGH the muffler because it is a true 3" ![]() ![]() Here is a real HKS Hiper 3" inlet universal muffler. Look, I can't even get a 2.5" pipe to go in the rear because of the stupid baffle! This muffler is $200, what a rip!! ![]() ![]() So, for all of you people paying $600+ for JDM exhaust systems, here is the truth for you. Some of you have a 2.5" exit, HAHA. Please take pictures and measurements of the exit hole on your JDM exhaust system for reference!! As far as I know only the Blitz NUR SPEC has the full exit size as advertised, which also explains why it is so loud.

![]() 1) Now I don't feel so bad anymore for having the Megan 2) Now here's a good reason why people call the HKS systems quieter... it's because they're more restrictive! |

I think that the other kicker is that it's FULL SS, not just the piping or just the muffler, and can be had for low $500s. |

So the best exhaust systems are the RSR GT2, and the Blitz Nur Spec?

hmm this is pretty interesting. Never knew that, maybe this will change my thoughts about the hks super dragger. also how hard would it be to remove the baffle?

I have the Apexi N1 and my exit on my muffler is smaller as well, but my car is LOUD AS HELL!! If I remove the baffle, cops will come looking for me no matter where I go.

i dont spend rediculous amounts on exhaust anyways..
exhaust shop can make you an exhaust for like 70 bucks all the way up...minus the cost of a muffler... as long as the bends are the same...a 4" pipe is a 4" pipe...

so thats why those are so quiet....
mine was done at a local shop, its a 3in from the elbow to the muffler (flowmaster, intresting tone to say the least) for 600, not bad concidering what the other exausts cost <l><l> |

Yeah, show me a 3" SS mandrel bent custom exhaust for $70!
If you can, you must own the shop. Parts alone would total more than that. |
