1JZ Head Info
I was on the phone with Eric (Zazzn) this evening and we were pondering 1JZ valve specs. I happen to have my head sitting on my bench so I went out to measure it. Everyone posts up what they "think" they know about 1JZ vs. 2JZ so I thought we could put this crap to bed.
Eric, I think we need to create a sticky that is an actual comparison between both the 1JZ and the 2JZ with actual specs, no myths. I have both shortblocks on engine stands so we can do this legit. Here are the head specs: 1JZGTE Intake Valves: 31mm Exhaust Valves: 30mm 2JZGTE Intake Valves: 33.6mm Exhaust Vavles: 29mm - Chris

lol.. i have never got this rating thing.. i dont even know what my rating is/how to check it haha...
Interesting on the vavles though.... I wonder how the intake (manifold) flow compairs between the two.... How do the intake ports compair? seems the 1jz has a higher velocity intake to give it some low end i guess?? |

Ok so next, like tomorrow, I'm going to compare the 1JZ and the 2JZ internals with pictures. I have stock 2JZ internals all broken down, but I need to pull the 1JZ shortblock apart to compare. I think getting the nitty-gritty specs will give us a lot of info.

See the real qestion is can you run 2.6 MM over stock my gut says NO way. but it would have been a nice upgrade for the 1jz for sure to run stock 2jz valves.....
Anyways, why don't we all do our selfs a favor and give each other +1 |

I don't know... Maybe the stock sized intake valve would work out ok, but that would still be a big upgrade. I don't know if there's enough room up there to do it. I have a close up shot of the head on my other computer. I'm not sure, I'll have to ask my machinist if he thinks there's enough room to go bigger there. Either way, the +1mm shelf valve for the 2JZ would only be stock size for us. I think we'd have to go with a custom valve for the exhaust side, but that wouldn't be a big deal.
I do think it's interesting that the intake side is 2.6mm smaller.... Very interesting. - Chris

Don't want to change the subject but what thickness head gasket will you use if you keep your GE pistons on your 1.5J Hams?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm going to run a stock Toyota HG actually. I've gone 10.92 @138 with my MKIV on a stock shortblock and stock Toyota HG. And that was 300' short of the 1/4 running out of gear and bouncing off the rev limiter ![]() - Chris

Oh yeah, I had custom made higher compression pistons made. I want big time response because I was sick of the no-response 1JZ single. I wanted more displacement and more compression. My pistons are punched .040 over and they're 9.0:1.

I told you guys already that the 1JZ was +1mm over the 2JZ on the exhaust side. Keep bringin up old news.
What kinda rods you got in your new block. Look like Eagle rods. Last edited by Spoolin Turbo; 11-29-2005 at 01:40 AM. |

I know this is off topic, but I'd like to know what your compression would be if you slapped a 1JZ onto a stock GTE block with a stock toyota MHG.
As for the stock 1JZ head, HAMS, could you get some pictures of the dome and compare it to the 2JZ head? I'm curious to see how they differ. joseph |

Two questions… First of all, other than face diameter, how do the valves from a 2J compare to the 1J (length, shaft diameter, weigh, ext?)… I was also wondering how 2JZ rods compare to 1JZ rods and if anyone has ever seen aftermarket H beams for a 1JZ other than the Greddy”s??
