LCD license plate screen?
a few years back there was a post of a guy who made a license plate cover that when the current was on, it was clear, and when it was off, it was black. the problem was that it was opposite of what people would want. does anyone know of this post or what materials were used/how it was done? id ont mind running it off my battery when i'm driving.

It is called liquid crystal glass. You can look up that, or electrochromatic glass. I had been planning on buying a companies sample when I had some extra cash as it seemed it was almost the size of a license plate. Their sample was the size of a sheet of paper, so I'm sure it would work for testing purposes to try to make it work in a car.

where can you get these from??? Not worried about cops too much. Just the ppl on the highway that want to call in your plates! LOL. I had a retractable plate on my R6. Worked great for running Tolls and from pissed of drivers.

There was a site that had them for sale for about 300bucks. When voltage is taken away from it, it would turn white. I was going to get one when I got done going NA-T. Well when I checked back the site was gone. http://store.stealthkit.com/index.cf...=basket.basket That was the link but it no longer works. It was called the stealth kit. They had videos of it on a lambo testing it out. I am also interested if anyone can find something similar.
edit: here is a link i found http://reviews.hspn.com/articles/132...Kit/Page2.html but they also link you back to the same site that is taken down.

Be careful with these as it is illegal in most states !!!
All it is is a small thin frame that has a liquid in it and when current is applied to it it basically turned a kind of opaque clear screen and shows nothing behind it (I.E. your license number). Simple install, although I don't know who makes them anymore.

heh, I made that video on the gallardo. I never meant for that to hit the internet. Anyway my friend posted it after i emailed it to him to show him the plate was working. In northern michigan the plate got confiscated and the car was pulled apart for a full inspection on the side of the highway for a few hours. Was a good way to tie up 6 cop cars for the rest of us though

yeah the spray on stuff...not the actual plate that is wired up to power and at a flip of a switch is hidden. they tested spray on hide a plate crap that you buy in an infomercial ad in a magazine or catalogue, and tried aluminum foil etc...i didnt see them have one of these plates.

that liquid crsytal shit is what they use for the maybach roof too. so that the passenger flips a switch and the whole roof can either be clear glass or blocked out. its a pretty sweet lookin bit of gear

Good news!
I am the owner of the patent for the products your are discussing. Smart Earth Technology (SET) licensed my patent for their "Stealth Kit". Unfortunately due to lack of funding and difficulties getting reliable suppliers to the kit components, they had to cease operations.
The good news is that I have decided to bite the bullet and invest the money to manufacture the product to a much higher degree than it ever has been. I call it the Eclipse Kit. Originally, I only manufactured the motorcycle version, but now I am improving its design while preparing to make the automobile version. It will have many new enhancements. The only bad news I have is that we are still months away from having it available to sell. If anyone is interested in getting one, you may email me at: michael@flashalert.com By the way, I absolutely guarantee that no camera or any video device will 'see' through the lens when activated. |

Sounds good, will it be in a frame like the ones we'v discussed? or will it just be the piece of glass? i personally like teh glass better, it makes it less conspicuous. |
