My buddy is an engineer for Oshkosh Truck.....it is so badass to see some of the projects they have. I was trying to encourage him to let me drive a Striker during the winter months here, haha.

The Striker is the shit. I am helping Oshkosh replace some of the engineers they moved out to Northrop-Grumman to work on the next Humvee replacement. It will be a hybrid!

Does Volvo power their own trucks? Because I've heard lots of guys around here hate Volvos....unreliable and underpowered.

was it you that posted the thread about getting ticketed in your rig? how did that turn out?
Ya, that was me. I ended up paying a traffic attorney $2K to go to court and deal with the DA for me. They dismissed the charges due to no physical evidence (pacing me supposedly). They put it as a mino 1-1/2 point infraction like I would have gotten a 5mph speeding ticket in my personal car. I had to pay the ticket. Cost me $400.

Actually, you have that wrong my friend. Volvo tractors are leading the market right now with the best fuel economy and reliability. The way the fuel system is designed is the reason for the fuel economy. I have talked to drivers' that have gotten 14mpg in their Volvo.

As far as the powerplant goes, I'm not sure. I wouldn't be suprised if they do build their own tractor motors.

They got a heavy haul trucking thread going over on the snowmobile site....lots of guys working in the Alberta oil patch and other northern spots, so here's a few outtakes:

Ya' they do. But, you also pay for it. My boss wouldn't even talk about them when he saw the cost of them. We lease our Pete's for $2K month and the Volvos were going to be $3800. When you need 16 of them that adds up quick!

Yes, my father has chosen the cummins for that reason alone.

Yes you are right Volvo makes there own engines.

This one is even more powerful than the standard D16 engine the D16E660 660hp and 3100nm of torque (2286lb-ft)
http://www.volvo.com/trucks/global/e...gram/intro.htm

I belive this is the most powerful truck engine in the world in normal roadgoing trucks.

Y'all dont know about big trucks LOL, right now im reading this as i sit in the drivers lounge of the international dealership where my POS truck is yet again in the shop. I drive a 2006 international 9400i cummins N14 diesel with eaton fuller 10 speed tranny with approx. 350k mi daily and its the biggest piece of junk ive ever driven. We are supposedly getting the new prostars soon and they seem nicer but we will see about durability.
Previously ive driven Peterbilts, Kenworth and Freightliners.
As far as Peterbilt and KW go they are both similar sister companies, after the frame the "cab's" are made by a company called "Paccar" for both companies and the engine/tranny/rears etc... are all spec'd by the customer purchasing the truck.

The now discontinued "379" is the typical truck people think of and is a favorite of owner operators because of its parts availability and customization options are endless.(can you say CHROME!)

The truck i drove before my international was a 2003 KW T2000 with almost 1 mil miles on the detroit diesel and that truck never gave me any problems and was the nicest riding/driving truck ive driven yet.

Freightliner is owned by Chrysler so the quality isnt the best and the ones with Mercedes Benz engines are WEAK (usually columbia class) I drove mostly Century class and they were just a little better than the international i have now.

Volvo has really stepped up and they have some really nice trucks, the thing i like the most is they have a really tight turning radius which helps out when backing into tight areas.

Western star trucks are nice, they are owned by Mack/Volvo BUT if you are looking for the most badass Truck that will make those peterbilt drivers drool you need a MARMON, these are very rare and were hand made they are the absolute king of the road.

Not a semi but still a badass truck that puts most super-duties to shame. Saw this morning on the way to work, first I have seen in Arancio Ishtar (Murcielago Orange).
