This is only the beginning. Not sure if the few dozen Kaizo owners will have much ammunition against the Feds. Can't say I didn't see this coming though.

Talk about a overallocation of government resources. This matter should have been solved years ago. The Department of Justice should have made a concrete set of guidelines too. Instead a decision has been made to take a car away. Of course that is in lieu of revising existing guidelines and enforcing them in a way that fixes their own loopholes.

I say its a scam. If you were gonna get a letter it would be from transportation/motor vehicles, not the Department of Justice.

Customs might be just as likely too.

That's when you then send a letter back that just says, "You're information is wrong, but thank you for your concern."

I would just sell it to the Canadians and cut my losses.

I wonder how it would fair if you stated the car was for track use only and not used on public roads.

The problem is there was no loophole to begin with. Kaizo just thought they were clever. The relevant law CLEARLY states that the provisions for kit cars are NOT to be used to evade EPA and DOT regulations on importation of non-conforming vehicles.

I wish our laws on importation were more reasonable like canadas, but these guys with Kaizo skylines don't have a legal leg to stand on.

Like I said, they need to enforce what is written instead of dancing around the issue. Kaizo may have thought they were clever, but the law should have been enforced long ago. I would say that is definitely a loophole just not in the most literal sense.

are the kaizo skylines sent over as kit cars or actual registered vehicles? If they're just parts, I don't think customs can make you forfeit it. The worst that they can do with it is invalidate your registration so it isn't considered a road going vehicle anymore.

Google her name. She's a US Attorney.

Can't export cars to any NAFTA countries, so the cars need to ship out to either a European or Australian location. Can't ship these cars back to Japan either. I love the part where they say they are organizing a fight. It's really not a fight since legally they have nothing that will hold up in court. Show's over fellas...

QFT

There was a guy down here in DFW who had half a dozen Skylines he was trying to sell for anything from 30 to 45K. I don't think he ever sold them. Sucks to be him now

I was wondering the same thing. I don't get why they want to seize or export it, why not just revoke it's registration and VIN and call it a day.

That doesn't work either. The DOT is strict about what a "race car" is, and it is not a normal street car that someone decides to call a racecar.

Plus, if it came in illegally it is contraband. Whatever one wants call it after the fact doesn't mitigate against that.

I never understood the desire to pay Porsche turbo money for an illegal car that had to be brought in through such shady practices (other than the handful of MotorX cars).

The GT-Rs are formidable cars, but were they ever worth this much BS? Really?

The war on Skylines=The war on drugs

They can take away EVERY Skyline in the US and it still won't do shit. Someone, somewhere (especially where I live,FL,etc....) will figure out a way to bring one in. It's a car....not a crate full of bombs or fully automatic machine guns. Seriously, what do they think this is going to do?

I guess I also just dont understand why people are willing to go through so much. I understand the money aspect, but good lord, you have the Federal Government knocking on your door, over what? A CAR.

Everyone has something I suppose...
