Trans is pulled and ready to go back to DM. I drained the trans fluid and once again I have a ton of aluminum coming out. To have that much aluminum after 50-75 miles seems to be excessive and I wonder if one of the shift forks is out of spec or installed incorrectly. Anyone else get a Marlin crawler or DM modified r154 and seen this much aluminum?

I noticed the clutch disc is wearing towards the outside against the flywheel and evenly on the pressure plate side. Anyone else seen this?

Update: DM pulled the trans apart and essentially found no issue with it. They indicated there was some countershaft wear, but nothing they hadn't seen before (pic attached). So, the trans shows up tomorrow and I'll reinstall it and not worry about the sound I'm hearing.

    R154 Swap Noise

Okay the trans is back in and now won't go in to any gear. I reached out to Aaron at DM and he indicated the the shift rods can move during shipping. Usually it's the reverse one. He recommended pulling the reverse light switch to inspect to see if the rod moved and then move it back.

I pulled the switch and see a square piece of steel that is almost centered in the hole. I tried to move it but could not.

Any ideas on how to fix this issue in the car?

Use a flat head to move it. Use a cloth to protect the threads.

Dumb question, but does it need to go toward the back of the car?

I'm assuming if other shift rods moved then the transmission will need to be opened?

In the R154, the reverse gear sits towards the plate, so push the lever back. Also, turn the driveshaft which will help. Do it with feel, not forcing anything.

Since you can start the car and it is not trying to move when you crank, the trans is not in gear. The reverse gear is a straight cut kind of gear, it sits on a shaft and can move freely.

The driveshaft is actually locked up. The engine does turn which tells me the trans is not in gear. I haven't started the car yet.

There's not a whole lot of room to get a screw driver in there while the trans is installed. I tried lowering the tail of the trans, but don't think I can get it low enough.

Put the car in 1st gear, press and hold the clutch and try to start the car, if the car jumps foward, you have clutch problems.

Maybe the TB clips came out? maybe the fork is not doing it's job?
Getting out Boosted by Turbobozzer... for now...

    R154 Swap Noise

The car cannot go in to any gear. It appears the reverse shift rod moved during shipping from Driftmotion and it is stuck between gears. When I pulled the reverse light switch I could see the shift rod reverse light tab in the hole. So I'm trying to push it back in a confined space so I don't have to pull the trans again.

Okay I can't budge that SOB at all. Does it matter if the clutch is engaged or not? Why is the drive shaft locked up? The engine turns freely acting like it's in neutral.

It won't go into any gear with the motor running or motor off?

Trans needs to be opened to get it fixed.

Okay pulled the trans and popped the reverse rail back in place with a screw driver. Everything works! Trans is back in the car.

Just closing the loop on this saga. R154 is back in for the 4th time and it's running smooth. It does make a slight sound at idle that my OCD can hear, but it functioning perfect.

Reviving this thread. Mine does the exact same thing. Did you ever figure the cause of this noise?

No I never did. Sent it back to driftmotion and they tore it down again and found nothing. It shifts smooth, but still makes the same noise. Noise seems to lessen after everything warms up. It fucking annoying to hear that noise over the idling engine sound.

Please provide more detail on your scenario. Are you using a CM FX400? Rebuilt by DM? Wondering if there are some common things between our set ups?
