Supra BPU vs. Nissan TITAN "supercharged"

I was on my way home on the freeway when i see this dark gray truck gaining quickly on me in my rear view mirrors. I did not hesitate to wait for him at all (as i thought he wouldn't be messing around with me). Suddenly he pulls right next to me slowly, then guns it to get in front of me and catch my attention. He slows and waits for me to catch up. As I catch up he makes the 3...2...1...GO!!! I went halfway on the throttle at first before flooring it and slowly crept passed him, maybe about 1 car. I shut down at 105mph to 80mph and he recklessly passes by at maybe @ 110mph. Well i though it was the last i'll see of him. I was wrong, i see him in front of me about 2 cars when i get off the freeway. Well now im thinking about a rematch, from a dig. When the street was clear i caught up to him at the light. He looks at me with a eager smile for this rematch. At green we both gun it, and he jumped by half a car, while i slowly gain up to him Into 2nd gear. I passed him by fender around 80mph and into 3rd a full car and a half. we both slow down and he asks me "that must be a twin turbo" i said " yes, with BPU" i ask him what his mods were, he says" its supercharged ." Well i give him the thumbs up on a good match. :bigthumb: He gives me the thumbs up, and turns to the left light with a peelout on his way. Although it was a really fast truck, i went home with the victory of knowing i slaughtered a supercharged Titan!!. :bigthumb:

Did you obviously hear the whine of the SC? Theirs only 1 SC kit on the market for a Titan and it's made by Stillen. The damn thing is around $6K and another $2K for install. At this time on all the Titan boards we only know of 2 people who have them and their running around 450hp to the wheels. My Titan with only an intake and exhaust runs high 14's in the 1/4 and has about 280hp to the wheels. With another 170hp to the wheels that trucks running LOW LOW 12's if not high 11's. I highly doubt he was SC'd, just because of the extreme rarity of these setups at this time and because it's a roots style setup you would have heard that SC screaming way louder than the exhaust. Along with that he would have destroyed you off the line, a stock Titan has a tick under 400 ft lbs of TQ and reach nearly all of that TQ under 3000 RPM. The SC'd ones are reporting close to 450ft lbs of TQ at the wheels. Even at 4800 lbs these trucks move, and off the line like a bat out of hell if he was SC'd. You'd be at the very least a car length or more behind before you starting making any gains.

its a nismo supercharger but I think its still in development. and correct me if I'm wrong but the stillen unit says 40% increase from stock so 305+122=427 hp but at the wheels, is not nearly 450 hp at the wheels like leesupra was saying. and the torque on a sc'd titan is around 400-410, I saw the dyno sheet online but I can't find it now..

edit found it...http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start=6&q=http://www.stillen.com/specs/407560P-profile.pdf&e=9797

Really? That seems kinda low, esp. for one with intake and exhaust. They supposedly have 305, so there must be a hell of a lot of drivetrain loss? I know they feel like they have every bit of that 305 to the wheels!

Just because the manufacture advertises it that way doesn't mean all dynos are going to reflect that number. We all should know what. My Titan had 270 RWHP in stock trim. now with about %20 DT loss that comes out to be around 340hp at the crank. That's a lot higher than the 305hp that Nissan advertises for the Titan. I saw the same Dyno you saw, it's Stillens Dyno on the truck. I also don't know id the ones I saw were corrected dyno's etc. It's not uncommon to find a %5-10 swing when comparing on one Dyno with another, ya really can't call ones accurate over the other since we know nothing about them.

You are correct on the setup above but from whats been released it was a custom setup from Nismo and I believe Vortech for one of the big auto shows last year and that they will not be releasing a kit for the Titan.
ALTHOUGH from what I have heard a Turbo kit will be comming out for about 2K less than the SC kit I mentioned above.

Actually the Titans are underrated.
Figure %20 DT loss for an auto which is just about right. I'm running right around 350hp at the crank. Even with your standard 15-%18 DT loss for a manual your going to see 259RWHP for 15% and 250RWHP for 18%. For the Titan crowd to be running these numbers with only a CAI and exhaust the truck is absolutly underrated.
Check out the Dynos of stock Dodge Hemi Rams. They typically Dyno less than the stock Titans. Now thats a case of either overrating their trucks or they indeed have some horrible DT loss.
Don't forget the 280 I have you is RWHP and Nissans 305 is at the crank. I also ran mine at 3000' on the Dyno and it wasn't corrected for altitude. Most guys are running 285-288 RWHP with my setup in good air or when corrected.

BTW, I wans't calling BS on you when I said I doubted it was SC'd. I just doubted the guys story he told you. Now N20 is a whole different story, it's a pretty popular mod right now for the Titans. I'm thinking about adding the NX Express Wet system I had on My Cobra to this truck. I'd love to suprise the crap out of some Hemi owners, Silverado SS owners or possibly a SRT-10 owner. :fro:

Yeah, im straight with that, i just thought that seemed like a lot of drivetrain loss, especially if you have a few mods, but i see what you're saying about them maybe being underrated.
So this is kinda off topic, but do you think a Titan could take a Dodge Hemi, stock for stock? :D
My dad keeps telling me that everyone he works with acts like they could take him, one has a hemi and one a tundra (I know the tundra would be no match)

yeah I alway thought that what the manufacture said was supposed to be crank hp..such as 305hp for the titan and 320 hp for the supra...but i've heard that that is wrong.

From what i understand the Dodge wins by a hair. Haven't run one in mine but the Dodge from what I have heard is a hair lighter although I haven't looked it up.

I couldn't tell if there was a hissing sound but i have no clue if it was SC, but his car jumped on me off the line. It had a pretty loud dual exhaust.
This SC is pretty loud. Stoped by Stillen in CA about 4 weeks ago when I was visiting my sister. I saw one there and the SC was very loud, look up some 03/04 Cobra vids on this site and others, you can hear that Eaton perfectly. My CAI make a loud hissing/wooshing should when you get on it. You could have been hearing something like that.

I'm on a list for a Turbo kits that being developed right now. It's going for around 3500 bucks. Their advertising around 400 RWHP with 5-6 PSI. No intercooler but it will utilize a 140lb methanol injector to cool the intake charge and give you a huge bump in octane. The guys who's testing it is pulling 340RWHP on a Mustang dyno. That's about 400 on a Dynojet. For another 1K he's going to be releasing an upgrade down the road which has a fuel system, custom sheet metal intake and will deliver about another 100 hp. A hella a lot cheaper then the Stillen SC, less work to install and IMO better on the motor.
