NHRA Rulebook says spare tires are not to allowed to be used as skinny's. The tracks around here wont allow you to run if you have spare tires on your car. Hope this helps you out:wavey:

I tok a D/A with 150 grit to the "temporary use only" writing. Only took ~5 minutes per tire:)
Where does one find the FD spares? I might buy some.

We used to do this with Supras back in 1998 or so. We would tech on regular wheels then chage to the slicks and spares on front. Usually they would notice after a few passes that the front tires were spares and boot us off the track.

This is true, beofre ANYONE made fronts that fit over stock brakes.

I bought an extra spare wheel from Curt at Elmhurst and mounted up a set of M&H 17" skinnies. When I have the extra cash, I'll change the wheels out. The extra spare was around $50 from Curt. The wheels were yellow which while it would look great with my red car, I decided to paint them. I cleaned the wheels with a firm brush then proceeded to paint them with Dupont primer followed with their 'Chrome' paint. It's nowhere near as great as chrome but it matches my rear Bogarts enough that I won't be totally embarrassed to run them.

The skinnies with the M&H tires weighs in at 35lbs and the rear bogarts (16x10) with 16x11.50 ET Streets weigh 37lbs per wheel.

Now to the pics

Specs on the skinnie tires please:)

The only thing I suggest is that the wheels be sandblasted and not painted. I tried painting them and the paint is very fragile.

Did you use the proper primer and apply it and the paint at the correct temp?

I wanted to have the wheels stripped then powder coated but in the end, they are just steel wheels and shouldn't get that much in regards to how pretty they are. I spent $8 on paint and primer which allows me more towards a nice set of aluminum 17's skinnies down the road.

Are you referring to the tires or wheels?

If tires, there is no way I'm going to break 120mph on the spare tire.

If wheels, it's just a skinny steel wheel which does not have a speed rating.

I've never heard of a track offical not allowing the wheel. The factory spare tire....yes, they won't allow that.

^^^^Hmmmmm....that's ALMOST as cheap as using a spare wheel set.....
