Heh, also drilled the exhaust manifold for an exhaust gas temp sensor. Started to run the tap in, and the blasted tap handle interferes with the mounting flange. Augh. So had to order a taller tap handle

Cheap handle, even came with taps which are probably trash
Well sonova. Went to actually install the K-type probe - typical compression fitting, has a copper olive that goes over the tube and a jam nut to tighten down. Get it into place, hand-tighten the nut, then go to the wrench. Got barely 5deg of turn, and the frikken thing strips threads. You can see them below, looking like fingernail clippings.

They stripped out of the nut, though the male part of the fitting doesn't look perfect. Dang blast it. OK, on the hunt for a 1/8" NPT to 5mm compression fitting ...

Doesn't seem to exist in the US. At least not at any reasonable price (like $35 with $25 shipping arriving Apr 28 to May 5). Oddly enough, can find a whole new probe, WITH fitting, for $23, arriving TODAY. Going to try that ...

Got the new probe, and the fitting was somewhat bigger. The tip was a little oval'd so I couldn't get the fitting off and was worried about crunching the inside of the tube, so just went with the new probe (which I was gonna do anyway).

      Tightened right up

Some Techflex Insultherm fiberglass heat sheathing just for extras along under the manifold and it's good to go. I also have some 1/2" DEI silicone fire sleeve, the thick stuff, but that's probably overkill. Most exhaust temp sensors I see photos/videos of don't have anything extra.
