Which 18" wheels will fit a Brembo BBK ?
Well this was frustrating ... A couple of years ago I bought a bracket kit from tarmactrr that lets one mount Cadillac CTS-V/Corvette brake calipers with Lexus ISF rotors (360mm and 345mm). The calipers are pretty standard Brembo 6-pot and 4-pot - an example of a front one is an AC Delco 172-2521 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055AT7PE)
I have (Enkei RZ5 18" wheels) which clear the stock Supra calipers with room to spare. I measured as best I could for the Brembos, and everything looked good <<-- note past tense.
I finally pulled the trigger and bought the rest, calipers, rotors, pads etc. First to go on was left-front, and dammit, the barrel of the wheel is too narrow - the pad-retaining pin mounts appear to interfere with the interior of the wheel. I had to remount the stocks, but this week I'll try again to see exactly where and how much is interfering, and verify that the rears clear. I think it's probably too much even to grind - the wheel was still about an inch away from seating against the hub. It looks like the barrel narrows down as it approaches the face of the wheel.
So. New wheels most likely in order. The RZ5 I have now are 18x8.5/35-or-42 with 265/35 and 18x9.5/42 with 285/35, and those are a perfect fit, no rubbing at all on unrolled fenders. Much as I like the look of 19", that requires 30-series tires, which equates to a harsher ride and more prone to wheel bends on the crappy northeast roads.
If I can I would prefer staying on 18" wheels, but will do 19" to clear the calipers if I have to. I like the 5-spoke chunky look (even 6-spoke), so SSR GT-X03, GT-V01, Reiner-6 all look good, both in 18" and 19". The Reiner-6 has 3 different faces available, Super-Low, Normal and Hyper, with an offset range available - looks like you specify what you want.
Can anyone offer opinions if those SSR wheels would clear the brakes in 18", or any 18" wheels that clear a typical BBK ? I'm assuming that 19" will be no issue. If going to 19" I would prefer to not touch the fenders, so which sizes/offsets would fit ? I've gone through this thread till my head spins, literally dozens of combinations ...
